A memorial ceremony will be held prior to Friday's dual against York College

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - A two-time NCAA Championships qualifier for the Marauders, and a selfless community servant and hero in life, Cody Becker '08, will be remembered before Friday's wrestling dual at Cooper Park between Millersville University and York College.

Becker, a detective sergeant with the Northern York County Regional Police, died while serving in the line of duty on Sept. 17, 2025, at the age of 39. He was a distinguished public servant as an officer following a standout wrestling career at Millersville University. Becker won 84 matches in four seasons, won the NCAA East Region title at 149 pounds in 2007, and qualified for nationals at the Division I level in 2006 and 2007. As a senior, Becker earned the Theodore H. Rupp Award for the team's most valuable wrestler.

Friday's memorial event is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. The Pennsylvania State Ceremonial Unit will be in attendance to present the colors for the National Anthem. There will be a state police helicopter landing. Speakers include Becker's teammate and Millersville Hall of Fame inductee Jarrett Hostetter '10, former Millersville coach Neil Barnes, and retired chief of police Mark Bentzel. Millersville's annual outdoor match against York follows at 3 p.m.

As a teammate and as an officer, Becker positively impacted the lives of many. To perpetuate his legacy, a memorial scholarship was established in his honor with the hope that the dedication and passion he embodied will continue to inspire future Marauders in wrestling, academics, and in the communities they serve. Millersville wrestling is also selling limited-edition "VILLE STRONG" shirts, sweatshirts, and hats that feature a special emblem remembering Becker's life. These items will be available for purchase at the event and will go on sale online following Friday's dual. Proceeds will benefit the Becker family.

"Through my 20-plus-year career with Lancaster City Police and 15 years as chief at MU, I've observed collegiate wrestlers excel at policing as we learn discipline, teamwork, self-motivation, and humility," said Millersville University Chief of Police Pete Anders '85. "I can think of no better way to honor Cody's service and sacrifice to his family and his community than to provide scholarships to educate and train the future Cody Beckers at the 'Ville in the classroom and on the mat. I ask our Ville wrestling alum to support the Becker family, and Cody's police and wrestling families, that Cody's name and legacy forever live at Millersville University."

A post-match gathering for alumni and friends will be held at Raney Cellars in Millersville. Please register for the post-match event here
