Marauders recognize season class, seek No. 2 seed in last regular season game

ABOUT THE MATCH

  • On Friday, the Millersville Marauders host PSAC Eastern Division leaders the Bloomsburg Huskies. Both of these programs have clinched their way into the PSAC tournament, but the Marauders are still fighting to finish in the No. 2 spot and secure a home playoff game. 
  • The Marauders will honor their five dedicated seniors before kickoff. Richy Valverde, Danny Gartner, Michael Dempsey, Cody Scully, and Jake Altimore have played key roles for Millersville and have impacted the program tremendously, helping the team to a pair of PSAC Championships. These five will be honored at 6:45 p.m.
  • Millersville clinches the No. 2 seed and a home game on Monday with a win or a West Chester loss or tie against East Stroudsburg. 

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • The Marauders go into this match with an 8-6-2 record overall, 5-2-2 in conference play.
  • The Millersville offense is led by Valverde and Matias Schmidt. These two have combined for nine of the 22 Marauder goals.
  • Millersville goalkeeper Jake Van Vorhees ranks second in the PSAC in saves and goals against average and is third in shutouts. Millersville has allowed one or zero goals in five of the last six matches. 
  • In their last matchup with the Huskies, the Marauders fell to a quick 2-0 deficit after two Bloomsburg goals in the first three minutes of play. Connor Fiadino cut the lead in half with an assist from Cooper Davis but the Marauders fell, 2-1. 

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES

  • Bloomsburg has clinched the Eastern Division with a 7-1-1 record. The Huskies were recently ranked fourth in the Super Regional standings behind Charleston, Southern New Hampshire, and Franklin Pierce.
  • The Huskies' last lost came on Sept. 21 to West Chester by a 4-2 score. Bloomsburg has gone onto win its last 11 games.
  • Bloomsburg has played well on both sides of the field, scoring 35 goals while allowing their opponents just nine.
  • Senior Patrick Walsh has played a strong leader role for the Huskies scoring nine goals in 27 shots. Kody Besser, Alex Wilsterman, and Owen Hollobaugh follow behind each with four goals.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Millersville leads the overall series, 39-16-6. Since 2019, Millersville has dominated the series, 6-2-1.
  • These two programs have been top contenders of the Eastern Division, finishing in the top four each year since 2021.
