SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Despite dominating offensive possession, Millersville settled for a 1-1 draw at Shepherd Saturday.
Millersville jumped to an early lead thanks to a goal from Richy Valverde in the 12th minute of play. In addition to Valverde's goal, the Marauders took 13 shots in the first half and 20 overall. They forced the Rams goalkeeper to make eight saves and allowed just seven shots.
The Marauders maintained their 1-0 lead until a late slip in the defense that allowed a Shepherd goal with just 15 minutes left in play. Millersville was unable to connect for one last goal scoring opportunity.
The Marauders move to 5-2-2 in the PSAC East and 8-6-2 overall. They hold the second place spot in the division, with a guaranteed spot in the postseason. Shepherd falls to 2-6-1 in PSAC East play and 4-9-3 overall.
Millersville returns home in preparation for their final regular season game against Bloomsburg on Nov. 8 starting at 7 p.m. The team will use this night to recognize their seniors for their impact and dedication to the program.

THOUGHT FROM HEAD COACH STEVE WIDDOWSON
- On the team's performance against Shepherd: "Today was very disappointing. We got into some good areas and created good opportunities but failed to capitalize on many of them. We also lost some control in the second half and allowed Shepherd to have too much of the ball. I think we were a bit fatigued from the efforts we put in on Wednesday, but that should not have prevented us from getting the result today."
- On looking forward into the postseason: "Obviously today isn't what we wanted as we approach the postseason. However, we know how good we can be on our day, so we need to do everything we can to maximize our performance levels in each and every remaining game."
