MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Energy and execution was the name of the game for the Millersville Marauders in their 4-0 victory against Shepherd Wednesday at Pucillo Field.
Four Marauders scored goals as they matched a season high for goals in a game. Millersville also picked up its third shutout. Jake Van Vorhees made three saves for the clean sheet.
In just the 10th minute of play, Roy Parkyn opened up the offense for the Marauders with his second goal of the season. After a few deflections in the box, Parkyn gathered the ball finished with a line drive to the back of the net, giving Millersville a 1-0 lead.
Millersville continued to put pressure on Rams defense, and the Marauders were quick to double their lead early in the second half. After a corner attempt, Tylen Thomas found the foot of Matias Schmidt who finished the play with a low line drive past the hands of the Shepherd goalkeeper.
From there Millersville sealed the deal with an additional two goals of insurance. Mikhil Patil added to his freshman campaign with his second goal of the season off an assist from Schmidt. Michael Dempsey closed the game for the Marauders with a strategically placed penalty kick into lower right corner of the net, just out of reach of the keeper.
Shepherd falls to 3-5-2 overall and 1-4 in PSAC East play while Millersville improves to 5-5 with a 3-2 record in conference play. With the victory, the Marauders lead the all-time series over the Rams, 15-2.
POSTGAME REACTION FROM COACH STEVE WIDDOWSON: "We did well to get an important result tonight. While I thought our execution and tempo could have been much better we found a way to get a positive result. We tried to remain always positive in our play and that got rewarded with the goals we scored. However, we need to keep working and improving as we now head into the second half of PSAC play and two important non conference games."
