MSOC vs. Shepherd

Marauders prepare for a rivalry matchup against Rams

| By:
  • Millersville vs. West Chester: 24-27-5
  • First Meeting: W, 4-3 (1968)
  • Last Meeting: L, 0-3 (2024)

ABOUT THE MATCH

  • For several years, Millersville and West Chester have been rivals at the top of the PSAC, playing for the PSAC Championship in two of the last five seasons, including in 2023. Since Steve Widdowson became Millersville's head coach in 2007, Millersville holds a narrow 13-10-5 lead in the series. These two teams bring a different level of intensity when they share the field. During their last matchup on Oct. 2, West Chester blanked the Marauders with a 3-0 victory. An early goal by the Golden Rams and back-to-back second-half finishes secured the West Chester victory. Since, Millersville has gone 3-2-1 with four shutouts and a scoring margin of 8-5.
  • Millersville currently holds the No. 3 spot in the PSAC East standings with 13 points, but that hold is tenuous. Millersville has three matches remaining against second-place West Chester (15 points), Shepherd and first-place Bloomsburg (22 points). East Stroudsburg lurks in the No. 4 spot with 11 points after a draw with the Marauders on Oct. 26.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • The Marauders continue to be successful at home with a 4-1 record at Pucillo Field.
  • The Millersville offense has produced 19 goals this season, with an average of 1.36 goals per game, ranking ninth in the 12-team PSAC.
  • Matias Schmidt and Richy Valverde lead the team with four goals. Roy Parkyn and Mikhil Patil follow behind with two apiece.
  • Jake Van Vorhees has been a dominant force for the Marauders in net, allowing just 16 goals and collecting six clean sheets on the season. His .841 saves percentage leads the PSAC, and he ranks second in goals against average.
  • Freshman Tylen Thomas has been a playmaker on the field, tallying a team-leading three assists.
  • Michael Dempsey has impacted the Marauders on both sides of the ball, totaling two assists, one goal, and four points.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN RAMS

  • West Chester is 2-4-1 on the road, scoring 11 goals. The Golden Rams have outscored opponents 26-19 and rank fifth in the PSAC in scoring margin.
  • The Rams have been on a slide of late, dropping three of their last four. All three losses have been shutouts.
  • Maksym Komperda and Owen Slack have scored five goals each. Redshirt sophomore Peter Tichy follows with four goals. Tichy also leads the team with five assists.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Millersville trails the all-time series, 24-27-5. Since 2016, the teams are deadlocked at 6-6-4 with three postseason meetings. Millersville bested West Chester in PKs in the 2018 PSAC Championship match, and in 2023, the Marauders took the title with a 1-0 win over West Chester. The loser of the last five matches has been shutout, and four of those matches were decided by 3-0 scores.
