Marauders unable to overcome first period deficit against No. 14 Bald Eagles

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — Millersville took on the No. 14 Lock Haven Bald Eagles hoping to end their program-best 18 game winning streak. Instead, the Marauders became another victim on the visitor's war path due to a rough first quarter. The hosts fought back throughout the rest of the game but fell 66-54.

The Marauders started out with a five-point advantage via a Madison Grubb three-pointer and a La'Shyra Williams layup assisted by Grubb. The redshirt junior would go on to record a career-high four assists by the game's conclusion. From then on out, it was all Lock Haven. They responded with a quick 10-0 run, spurring a Kira Mowen timeout. Lock Haven continued their onslaught after the stoppage, scoring the next 17 in a row. The visitors would exit leading by 22 due to that 27 point run.

Jabria Ingram broke the ice in the second with a mid-range jumper and the Marauders continued to fight back, tallying three more points from the line to cut into the early deficit. They won the quarter 14-13 with half of those points coming off the hands of Makiah Shaw.

Shaw continued that scoring in the second half, knocking down a mid-range jumper in its beginning and finishing through contact a minute later to garner herself a three-point opportunity. She would finish the quarter with 17 points, 10 coming in the third. The Marauders crawled back within 10 with a 13-2 run to begin the quarter. Williams chipped in five of her 13 total points during this stretch. Shaw's last score of the period cut the 'Ville's deficit to eight at 48-40.

Juliana Vinluan assisted Williams on a hook shot to bring Millersville within six with three minutes remaining in the fourth. That was the closest the Marauders had been since the first quarter, but they would get no closer. Vinluan finished with a team-high five assists, matching her season-high set against Slippery Rock on Dec. 2.

GAME NOTES:

The Bald Eagles sit just one game below .500 against the Marauders in the all-time series after their victory.
