Marauders win six events at Coach I Open

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Marauders started 2024 strong as they tallied six first-place finishes and totaled 19 top-three finishes at the Coach I Open hosted at Franklin & Marshall University.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS
  • Millersville was led by Sarah Hessler in the weight throw, who recorded a distance of 53' 2.25", the fifth best throw in program history. Maddy Downs finished second in the category with a throw of 47' 7".
  • Hessler also placed third in shotput with a mark of 38' 4", with Downs and Seya Trujillo rounding out the top five.
  • Aubrey Bitner won the long jump with a distance of 16' 5.25". The freshman already qualified for the PSAC Championships in her collegiate debut in the Bison Opener.
  • The top three spots in pole vault were a clean sweep for Millersville, as Darian Hauf, Megan Malecki, and Bitner cleared the bar. Hauf won with a height of 11' 5". 
  • Katelyn Murphy and Sabela Zablackis finished the 60-meter hurdles with top-three spots on the leaderboard and a place in the program's history books. Murphy placed second and recorded a time of 9.34 and Zablackis finished just after her with a time of 9.77. putting Murphy at fifth all-time and Zablackis at eighth, beating her previous time of 9.85 from last season. Murphy also qualified for the PSAC Championships.
  • Aurora Conrad and Arianna Kouakou took the top two spots in the 60-meter dash, with Conrad finishing with a time of 7.94 and Kouakou just behind with a time of 8.12.
  • Hannah Sweda placed second in the one-mile run, less than two seconds behind the first-place winner with a time of 5:30.34.
  • Cora Heilman took home first place in the 800-meter with a time of 2:25.65 and qualified for the PSAC Championships.
  • The top five spots in the 200-meter were all Marauders, as Kouakou won first place, and Aubrey Sydnor, Shelby Derkosh, Heather Lesinski, and Chanel Hercules rounded out the top five. Kouakou's time was 26.88.
  • Marissa Mounce got second place in the 3000-meter with a time of 11:16.17.
  • In the last event of the day, the Marauders finished second with a time of 4:20.09 from the team of Sydnor, Sweda, LaBure, and Lindsay Solderitch.
