Millersville women's lacrosse drops PSAC East match-up with the No. 12 Warriors

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Marauders dropped to 6-6 overall and 3-4 in the PSAC East after falling to the No. 12 Warriors on Saturday in their third consecutive road game. Millersville kept the game in close distance during the first quarter after trailing the Warriors 4-3, but East Stroudsburg outscored the Marauders 6-3 in the second to extend their lead which Millersville would never recover from.

"It was an unfortunate loss," said head coach Kaitlyn Hafdell. "The girls left the field knowing they gave everything they had. We had some very good looks on cage and one of the best transition games. The support on-and-off the field is what showed."

Ashlyn Simonetti and Liv Genovese would lead the Marauders' offense with three goals and one assist each. Hayden Corcoran would score twice and dish out one assist, while Mary Moraca and Rachel Keeney would each score once.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Warriors were on the board first after scoring two consecutive goals in the opening three minutes. Corcoran scored her first goal of the day which was assisted by Simonetti to trail by one. East Stroudsburg would tally back-to-back goals and extend their lead 4-1, but the Marauders would cut their deficit to one before the second quarter after Genovese and Corcoran would score one goal each to trail 4-3. Millersville took five shots with four on goal and went 4-for-4 in clears.
  • Millersville kept the scoring close to begin the second quarter, but the Warriors went on a 5-0 run to increase their lead to 10-4 with 6:00 remaining. Simonetti and Genovese would each score once for the Marauders to trail 10-6 at the half. The Warriors shot a game-high of 11 shots in the second, with eight landing on goal.
  • The third quarter was low scoring, but the Warriors outscored Millersville 2-1 to lead the Marauders by five goals heading into the final quarter of action. Millersville's defense limited the Warriors to shooting five shots and forced four Warrior turnovers. The Marauders grabbed nine ground balls compared to five for East Stroudsburg.
  • The Marauders reached as close as 13-9 after Simonetti and Moraca would each score once in the fourth, but the Warriors rallied to score three unanswered goals to lead Millersville 16-9 with 3:31 remaining. Keeney would score Millersville's last goal from a free position attempt for a final score of 16-10.
