MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Marauders led the No. 10 team in the nation at halftime and were looking for a victory over a top-ranked opponent, but East Stroudsburg broke through a resilient Millersville defense to defeat the Marauders 11-9 on Wednesday evening. The Marauders fall 3-3 overall and mark their first conference loss of the season. The Warriors improve to 4-1 overall and are 1-0 in the PSAC East.
The Warriors typically average seven goals after the first two quarters, but were held to just four against the Marauders defense. This marks marks the second time this season East Stroudsburg trailed at the half. The Warriors would secure the comeback win in the fourth quarter after outscoring Millersville 3-2.
"We not only held a top-ranked team," says head coach Kaitlyn Hafdell. "But we led them through the first half, it's something to be proud of on its own."
Morgan Scott created momentum for the Marauders on the defensive end as she made 15 saves against the Warriors. Scott led the team in ground balls with five and totaled six of her saves in the second quarter. "It's because of her saves that helped the momentum to go in our favor," said Hafdell. "It's what helped encourage our team throughout the game. East Stroudsburg made her move and play, she earned those 15 saves."
Notching hat tricks for the Marauders were Rachel Keeney and Liv Genovese. Charlotte Lasak, Hayden Corcoran, and Ella Linthicum would score once for Millersville. Lasak led the team in assists with two.
