BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Millersville picked up their first conference win this season over the Huskies of Bloomsburg on Saturday afternoon. The Marauders and Huskies would tally even scores throughout most of the match-up, but Millersville outscored Bloomsburg 4-2 in the second quarter to assist them in their conference victory. The Marauders improve to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC East, while Bloomsburg picked up their third loss of the season and drops to 1-1 in conference action.
Scoring five goals and leading the Marauders offense was senior Hayden Corcoran, and notching her second consecutive hat trick on Saturday was Liv Genovese. Charlotte Lasak would score twice for Millersville while Mary Moraca, Ashlyn Simonetti, Rachel Keeney, and Ella Linthicum would all score once. Morgan Scott would hold a .520 save percentage against the Huskies after making 13 saves in goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Back-and-forth action limited either team from taking a lead in the opening minutes of the first. Millersville would score the first goal at 12:10 but the Huskies answered back just two minutes later. Bloomsburg took a one goal lead twice in the first, but the Marauders would score to keep the game even. Millersville looked to take the lead before the second quarter after Moraca scored, but the Huskies would tie the game 5-5 with 0:36 remaining in the first.
- Bloomsburg would jump out to a 7-5 lead after scoring two unanswered goals in the second. The Marauders would fight to create offensive momentum which lead to an intercepted pass by Julia Barstow to put the ball on the Marauders' attacking end. Millersville would work around the fan until Ashlyn Simonetti would find Liv Genovese for the Marauders to trail 7-6. Genovese would then win the draw and work the ball into Millersville's offensive end before finding the tying 7-7 goal. Corcoran would score twice to end the second quarter for the Millersville 9-7 lead at the half.
- The Huskies would score to trial Millersville 9-8 after winning the opening draw. Bloomsburg would look for the tying goal, but a save by Scott would maintain Millersville's lead. Genovese and Lasak would score back-to-back goals and increase the Marauders' lead 11-8. The Huskies would find the goal twice and trail Millersville by one goal with 2:19 remaining, but Rachel Keeney would dodge the Huskies' defense and score her first goal of the day to give Millersville a 12-10 lead heading into the final quarter of action.
- With scoreless action for almost 10 minutes, the Huskies would score from a free position shot to trail the Marauders by one. Millersville would complete a successful clear to their offensive end where Simonetti scored her lone goal of the game to keep the Marauders lead. The Huskies were relentless and would capitalize on a free position shot with 4:00 remaining in the quarter, but the Simonetti would find Corcoran with 0:43 left to secure the Marauders 14-12 road victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Marauders out-shot the Huskies 19-14 at halftime and won 10 draw controls.
- Genovese fired off a team-high of nine shots, six of which were on goal.
- Millersville earned eight free position shots compared to three for Bloomsburg.
- Taiyana Goldsborough led the team in ground balls with three.
- The Marauders went 16-for-19 on clears while the Huskies went 14-for-22.
