Millersville continues hot streak with win over East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Marauders are keeping the win streak alive after defeating East Stroudsburg on the road 59-43 on Saturday afternoon, Millersville improves to 16-9 overall and 11-8 in the PSAC. Effective defense by Millersville held the Warriors to scoring single digits in the second and fourth quarters. With postseason action just over two weeks away, Millersville sits comfortably in third place in the PSAC Eastern Division with their 11th conference win. East Stroudsburg drops to 13-12 overall and 9-10 in the PSAC, the Warriors are ranked at fifth place in the conference standings.

Leading the Marauders in points (23) and steals (5) was Taylor Langan, Marin Miller followed right behind with 10 points on the day. The center, La'Shyra Williams, led off the board with six rebounds, four of which were defensive. Brenna Ortwein dished out five assists for the Marauders and made one block.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Millersville took an 11-2 lead early in the first quarter after capitalizing on a struggling Warrior offense. East Stroudsburg would find their momentum to cut their deficit to two points with 3:28 remaining in the first. The Warriors took a one-point lead twice before the period ended but Jabria Ingram's shooting gave Millersville a one-point edge to enter the second quarter.
  • The Marauders defense was productive in the second as they held the Warriors to scoring just five points. Millersville shot 45.45% from the floor and 2-for-3 from behind the arc, both three-pointers can be credited to Langan. Holding East Stroudsburg to going 2-for-11 from the floor and 0-for-3 for three-pointers, the Marauders created a 12-point lead entering halftime.
  • East Stroudsburg looked to make a comeback after cutting their deficit to single digits in the third. The Warriors offense wouldn't disrupt Millersville as they outscored East Stroudsburg 14-13. Millersville ended the third quarter shooting 6-for-14 from the floor and 1-for-2 behind the arc. Entering the final quarter of action, Millersville held a 13-point lead over the Warriors.
  • To close the final quarter of action, Millersville limited East Stroudsburg to shooting 23.53% from the floor and making just one free throw. The Warriors notched their first points of the fourth after Millersville went on an 8-0 run. East Stroudsburg would score their nine points with under five minutes remaining, but Millersville's lead was too great for a Warrior comeback, giving the Marauders the victory on Saturday.
