MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Millersville women's basketball saw three players come close to 20 points Wednesday night but weren't able to get past the PSAC East-leading No. 25 Shippensburg Warriors, falling 90-74.
Taylor Langan led the Marauders with 19 points, while fellow starters
Marin Miller and
Bria Beverly tallied 18 each. Ariel Jones scored a PSAC single-game scoring record 51 points while also breaking the conference career scoring record.
The Raiders improve to 15-3, 10-2 in PSAC play, while Millersville drops to 9-8, 4-7 in PSAC. The Marauders currently sit at No. 5 in the PSAC East standings with 10 games remaining on their conference schedule. The top six teams in each division (East and West) qualify for postseason play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Marauders controlled pace in the first quarter, building as much as a nine-point advantage over the Raiders. Langan led the strong 'Ville start, scoring 11 of her 19 points in the first 10 minutes of play. Millersville ended the quarter with a six-point lead.
• Shippensburg began second-quarter play on a 9-2 run fueled by two Jones' three-point makes, which gave the Raiders a one-point lead three minutes in.
Jaida Parker and Miller each scored four points in the final seven minutes of the first half to give 'Ville a two-point lead going into the break.
• The start of third-quarter play saw SU utilize a 10-0 run to jump out to its largest lead of the game at 46-38 with just over five minutes remaining. The Marauders didn't allow Shippensburg's run to continue, chipping away at the lead to leave them down five heading into the fourth.
• The Marauders were outscored by 11 points in the fourth quarter despite scoring 23 of their own --Jones was the difference maker, scoring 24 of her 51 in the final 10 minutes.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• 'Ville out-rebounded Shippensburg 32-30 -- Langan led Millersville with eight.
• Millersville shot just over 47% from the field, 50% from three and 54.4% from the charity stripe. The Raiders shot 50.9% from the field, 45.8% from three and 87.5% from the free throw line.
• The Marauders held a 38-28 edge in points in the paint.
