MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Marauders held strong in a tough battle against West Chester, but ultimately fell to the Golden Rams 71-63 on Wednesday night. West Chester was efficient from the floor in the first to give them an edge they would hold the entire game. Millersville was able to outscore West Chester in the final quarter, but the first quarter surge from the Golden Rams kept the game in distance from Millersville.
La'Shyra Williams was effective off the bench as she tallied 14 points to lead Millersville in scoring. Williams also grabbed five rebounds and made two blocks at the post. Marin Miller notched her ninth straight game scoring double-digits (11 points) for Millersville. Leading in rebounds with six was graduate student Taylor Langan, she also added seven points on the board for Millersville. Totaling nine points and three rebounds with her seventh start this season was Bria Beverly, she also grabbed three rebounds.
Millersville (10-9, 5-8 PSAC) couldn't get a shot to fall, going 6-for-17 in the first. West Chester (12-7, 9-4 PSAC) didn't miss a beat as they generated a heavy 23-6 run in the first eight minutes of action, West Chester shot 57.9% from the floor and drained 2-of-4 three-pointers in the first. Millersville picked up the tempo in the second and were able to cut the deficit to eight points with 6:05 remaining. The Golden Rams' three-point shooter, Anna McTamney, helped West Chester to hold their lead after hitting back-to-back shots from behind the arc. Millersville was outscored 20-19 in the second to bring them to an 11-point deficit entering the half. The Golden Rams had two players with 14 points after the first two quarters.
Millersville was within eight points of West Chester in the third, but the Golden Rams outscored the Marauders 14-7 in the final four minutes of the quarter. The Golden Rams held a 14-point lead heading into the fourth.
Despite outscoring West Chester 16-10 in the final quarter, Millersville couldn't close the gap to reach the Golden Rams before the final buzzer. Jabria Ingram's three-pointer put the Marauders within seven-points with 1:27 remaining. The Golden Rams went to the free throw line from Marauder fouls in the final minutes of action to give them their double-digit lead back. Three points from foul shots gave Millersville their final baskets of the night, falling by eight points to the Golden Rams. Â
