ABOUT THE GAME

  • The Millersville women's soccer team will look to play spoiler and gain its first win Saturday afternoon by attempting to knock off No. 25 Bloomsburg at Pucillo Field.
  • This is the first meeting between the two programs since last year on Sunday, Nov. 14 when they faced off in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Title Game. The Huskies were able to come away with a late victory in that game and the reigning conference champions have gotten off to a smooth 4-1 start in 2022, while the Marauders are still looking to gain stride this season.
We have a history with Bloomsburg, so we know what we face from them. We need to recover and go again.
Matt Procopio, Women's Soccer Head Coach

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • The Marauders have had trouble finding the back of the net early in the season, however, they haven't lacked opportunity around their opponents' box. Despite only converting two goals through four games, they have outshot opposing teams 50-35, 25-22 on frame, and hold an edge in corner kicks, 25-13.
  • Savannah Rennix has scored the only two Marauder goals this season and will look to continue that against a tough Husky defense this weekend. Aalivia Wainwright and Skylar Little each assisted on a Rennix goal and are the only other Marauders to record a point this season.
  • Reagan Kolinski and the defense seemed to settle in after a rough season-opener against Jefferson. Kolinski has allowed just four goals in three games, while making 11 saves in the process.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES

  • Bloomsburg outscored opponents 8-4 through their first five contests this season, and outshot opponents 71-46. The Huskies' only loss came against PSAC East foe, West Chester by a score of 3-1.
  • The Huskies' top offensive performer has been Nicole Varano, the graduate student has a team-high three goals and six points this season, while also leading the group in shots with 15.
  • In goal, Riley Spingler looks as if she will make her sixth start of the season after posting a 0.82 goals against average through five games and recording 19 saves.

THE LAST TIME OUT

  • Millersville: Millersville 1, Shippensburg 1 (Sept. 7, 2022) - Both goals came in first half action as Shippensburg began the scoring in the 8' and ‘Ville sent in an equalizer just before the half. The Marauders then outshot the Raiders in second half play but were not able to find a go-ahead score.
  • No. 25 Bloomsburg: Bloomsburg 3, Shepherd 0 (Sept. 7, 2022) - Bloomsburg jumped out to a lead before the 2' in first half action and didn't look back, storming to a 3-0 victory over Shepherd. The Huskies scored all three of their goals before the 60' and outshot the Rams 19-9 in the process.
