ABOUT THE GAME

  • The Millersville women's soccer team will look to gain its second Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division victory on Saturday afternoon against the visiting Kutztown Golden Bears.
  • Millersville is currently the seventh-place team in the East with five points while Kutztown holds the fourth spot with 10 points.
  • The last matchup between these two programs came in the PSAC Quarterfinals a season ago and resulted in the fourth-seeded Marauders knocking off the top-seeded Golden Bears, who were also ranked No. 3 nationally, in penalty kicks.
  • Kickoff for Saturday's contest is slated for 4 p.m. on the 'Ville Sports Network.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • After starting the season with just two goals through five games, the Millersville offense finally broke loose. The Marauders sent five balls past the Mansfield keeper in last Saturday's shutout victory over the Mountaineers, looking similar to the team ‘Ville fans saw in 2021. The group then left East Stroudsburg with a point after tying with the one-loss Warriors. Head coach Matt Procopio’s group will look to carry this strong play into Saturday's match against a Kutztown program the team went 0-2-1 against a year ago.
  • The 'Ville offense is led by Savannah Rennix who leads the team in goals and points, and is tied for the lead in assists. She has also sent a team-high 11 shots on goal this season. Rennix is joined by Palina Jordan, Aalivia Wainwright and Morgan Winchock who have all scored and sent five or more shots on net through seven games.
  • Reagan Kolinski made five saves in the Marauders' midweek match against East Stroudsburg before exiting with an injury - She was replaced by Bella Fiorenza, who stopped three Warrior shots and almost saved ESU's game-tying score. If healthy, Marauder fans should expect to see Kolinski in goal with Fiorenza serving as the backup keeper and Sabrina Zimmerman behind her.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS

  • Kutztown started its 2022 season on a tear, posting a 4-0-1 record through five games and outscoring opponents 13-1; since then, the Golden Bears have dropped matches to No. 22 Bloomsburg and No. 5 West Chester, both being 1-0 losses. Kutztown, who received votes in this week's United Soccer Coaches Division II National Poll, will be looking to bounce back against the Marauders.
  • The Golden Bears are coached by reigning PSAC East Coach of the Year, Erik Burnstein. Burstein's best offensive weapon is reigning PSAC East Athlete of the Year, Kayla Argen, who collected 25 points last seson off 10 goals and five assists. The midfielder is off to a good start in 2022 as well, scoring three goals and sending out one assists through six games. Freshman, Caroline McDonald has served as the Golden Bears' second option early in the season, scoring three goals and sending a team-high nine shots on-goal.
  • Emme Wolfel will be in net fot KU and she's been stellar thus far, posting a .875 save percentage, .443 goals against average, and recording 21 saves while only giving up three goals.

THE LAST TIME OUT

  • Millersville:  - Millersville 1, East Stroudsburg 1 (9/21/22) - Millersville and East Stroudsburg took part in a defensive battle for the majority of Wednesday night's match - Neither team saw the ball cross a goal line until after the 65' of action. Rachel Leisher bent a corner kick in front of the Warrior goal that was inadvertently headed in by a ESU defender to put 'Ville on the board first. East Stroudsburg would answer minutes later with a goal of its own to even score, leading to the eventual tie.
  • Kutztown: No. 5 West Chester 1, Kutztown 0 (09/21/22) - The Golden Bears gave up the only score in the 5' of action and were only able to record four shots on-frame in the remaining time.
