ALLENDALE, Mich. - A Millersville Marauder will be in action all three days of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, as senior Aliyah Striver and junior Hannah Woelfling qualified for the national meet in two events each.
A former indoor All-American in the shot put, Striver is back at the outdoor championships for the first time since 2019 and is competing in the hammer at the national level for the first time. Striver placed 24th in the shot put in her first trip to nationals. This year, Striver is seeded 16th (47-9 3/4) in the shot put and ranks 12th in the hammer throw with a season-best mark of 188-2. Striver recently finished second at the PSAC Championships in both events.
Woelfling, coming off being named PSAC Championships MVP, is among the top contenders for a national title in the discus. She crushed the PSAC record at the championships with a toss of 169-4, which has her ranked second only to West Texas A&M's Zada Swoopes, who is a six-time outdoor All-American and three-time national champ. She is the defending national champ in both the discus and shot put.
Woelfling is also in the mix in the hammer throw, where she enters with the third-best toss in Division II this year. Woelfling's 200-0 came up three inches short of Sunflower Green's school record, and it is shy of favorite Judith Essemiah of Grand Valley State, who hit 206-8 this season.
Woelfling is back at the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the second year in a row, but has qualified in the discus for the first time. She placed fourth in the hammer in 2021 for her first career All-America honor.
Striver and Woelfling both compete in the hammer throw on Thursday, May 26. Woelfling returns the following day for the discus, and Striver closes out the championships with the shot put on Saturday at 12:15 p.m. EST.
