LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Millersville University shortstop Thomas Caufield has been named the PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Year, and four of his teammates were named All-PSAC East by the division's coaches.
Caufield is just the fourth Marauder to win the East's top honor, and all four of those winners have come in the last decade. Caufield joins a select group that includes Zach Stone (2013), Chas McCormick (2017), and Bren Taylor (2021). Caufield is also the first shortstop since 2015 to win the award.
Caufield earned All-PSAC East First Team status as well and was joined on the first team by Jimmy Losh (infield), Luke Trainer (utility) and Bren Taylor (outfield). Starting pitcher Ben Wilchacky earned second team honors.
Through 51 games played, Caufield owns a .381 batting average while leading the PSAC in RBIs (72) and doubles (21) and ranking fifth in homers (14) and slugging percentage (.727). Caufield is within one homer of the single-season Millersville record.
Losh, Millersville's second baseman, ranks second in the PSAC in runs scored (67) and fourth in hits (71) while posting a .360 batting average and .450 on base percentage. Losh also leads the Marauders with 16 stolen bases.
Taylor is now a two-time All-PSAC East First Team selection. He's already set the Millersville record for runs scored with a PSAC-leading 74, and his 80 hits also leads the league. He ranks third among PSAC hitters with a .426 average, and his .515 on base percentage is second in the league, only to PSAC West Athlete of the Year Josh Surowiec of Mercyhurst.
Trainer is now one of only nine players in program history to be a three-time first team selection. Elected as a utility player for his work at first base, DH and catcher this season, Trainer previously earned first team recognition at DH and catcher. Trainer's .428 batting average ranks second in the PSAC, and his .511 on base percentage ranks fourth. He also ranks second in RBIs (61) and doubles (20).
Wilchacky gives Millersville an All-PSAC East pitcher for the 12th consecutive season. In a team-high 14 starts, Wilchacky owns a 9-1 record with a 2.23 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 72 2/3 innings.
The PSAC East Pitcher of the Year award went to Bloomsburg's Jared Marshman. East Stroudsburg's Jack Rothenhausier won the freshman of the year, and Shippensburg's Matt Jones was named coach of the year.
