Marauders down Shippensburg on the road, 12-11

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Morgan Scott made one of, if not the biggest play of her bright, young career at Millersville in today's 12-11 victory over Shippensburg. The freshman stopped a shot with 26 seconds remaining that would've most likely sent Tuesday's contest into overtime. Scott's save cemented 'Ville's victory and gives the team sole possession of the No. 3 spot in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East standings heading into Saturday's game against unbeaten No. 4 East Stroudsburg.

Gillian Zimmerman and Amanda Juliano led the Marauders on the offense end of the field, as Zimmerman netted six goals, edging closer towards the all-time top-10 list, while Juliano dished out seven assists, just two away from the program's single-game record (9).

The 2022 Marauders have now gotten off to the program's best start (8-3) since the 2001 season, a season where 'Ville finished 10-5. Millersville improves its PSAC East record to 4-2 following the win, while Shippensburg falls to 2-9, 0-6 in PSAC East play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 • First-quarter play was quiet, as each team scored one goal ending the first 15 minutes 1-1.
• The Marauders were able to take a three-goal lead in second-quarter play, outscoring the Raiders 5-2. Four different Marauders netted a goal in the quarter, with Zimmerman scoring a team-high two.
Grace Cobaugh and Rachel Keeney scored back-to-back goals early in the third quarter to give 'Ville a five-goal lead, however, Shippensburg would fight back with two goals of its own to keep the score within three. Each team scored a third goal in the quarter, giving the Marauders a three-goal advantage heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation.
• Millersville started the fourth quarter similar to the third, scoring a quick two goals to push its lead to five; however, this five-goal advantage would be taken away by the Raiders, as they scored four consecutive goals to cut the 'Ville lead to one with eight minutes remaining. Zimmerman would answer with her sixth goal of the day, which would be answered by Shippensburg's Hannah Seifried, cutting the Raider deficit back to one with four minutes to play. Morgan Scott then made two huge saves in the final four minutes of action to help Millersville sneak away with a victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Zimmerman fired a team-high 12 shots, eight on goal in the victory. Kristi Kada followed with five shots, three on frame.
• Keeney led the team in ground balls with three on the afternoon.
• Millersville was 17-18 on clears, while Shippensburg was 15-16.
• 'Ville held the edge in total shots, 33-26.
• Millersville committed 17 turnovers, while Shippensburg committed 14.

On the win: "Every PSAC East game is a big one, and this win allowed us to stay in a good position to fight for a spot in playoffs."

UP NEXT
