MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville women's lacrosse team fell to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West foe, Slippery Rock in a triple overtime thriller Saturday afternoon, 13-12.
Grace Cobaugh and
Ashlyn Simonetti led the Marauder offense with four goals each. Cobaugh also led the team in draw controls (11), total shots (9), and shots on goal (7) in the loss.
Millersville falls to 5-3 following the defeat, while Slippery Rock improves to 6-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The teams traded goals to start the first period, each scoring two through 10 minutes played. The Rock then pulled ahead towards the final minutes of first-quarter action, scoring two goals in two minutes to enter the second quarter with a 4-2 lead.
• Slippery Rock was able to build a three-goal lead in the second quarter, a lead that 'Ville would take away with three unanswered scored to end the quarter, two from
Ashlyn Simonetti. This brought the score to 7-7 through 30 minutes played.
• 'Ville took the lead five minutes into third-quarter play, courtesy of a Cobaugh goal. The teams then went back and forth, trading scores until the final seconds of the quarter, as Jamie DiCarlo gave The Rock a 10-9 lead with 11 seconds remaining.
• The Marauders came out of the gate on fire in the fourth, scoring three consecutive goals to take a two-goal lead with 4:25 remaining in the game. Slippery Rock wasn't done though, as the visitors provided two goals in the final 3:19 of play to even the score at 12 and send the Marauders into their first overtime game of the season.
• Neither team was able to record more than one shot in the first overtime, sending the game to a second extra-time period. The second overtime saw several Marauder offensive opportunities, as
Gillian Zimmerman,
Rachel Keeney, and
Amanda Juliano had chances to end the game for 'Ville; however, the score remained tied and entered a third overtime.
• Sippery Rock made the most of its chance early in the third overtime period, as Katie Dlugosz scored the golden goal off a pass from Brooke Kelley to send The Rock home with a cross-division victory.

• Cobaugh (4), Simonetti (4), Keeney (2), Juliano (1), and Zimmerman (1) all scored goals.
• Keeney, Juliano, and Kada all recorded one assist in the loss.

Morgan Scott provided another strong performance in the net, making 12 saves.
• Millersville was 18-21 on clears, while Slipper Rock was 24-28.
• 'Ville held the edge in total shots 35-33, and shots on goal 27-25.
• The Rock committed 20 turnovers, while the Marauders committed 22.
• 'Ville held the edge in draw controls, 20-12.
