Women's lacrosse suffers first loss to No. 7 East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Millersville women's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday afternoon to No. 7 East Stroudsburg, 19-6. The Marauders kept the score close in first-quarter play, falling behind by just three after 15 minutes of action; however, the nationally ranked Warriors would go on to outscore 'Ville 12-4 in the second and third quarters to come away with the victory.

Millersville drops to 4-1 overall and 0-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East play following the loss, while East Stroudsburg improves to 4-0 overall, and 1-0 in PSAC East play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 • The two teams traded goals early, as Gianna LeDuc gave ESU its first lead of the game just over four minutes into play, and Kristi Kada followed with an equalizer 29 seconds later. The Warriors would capture the momentum following Kada's goal, scoring nine unanswered goals that gave them a comfortable 10-1 lead midway through the second quarter. The Marauders would end the second on a 3-0 run of their own, pulling within six at halftime.
• Second-half action was all Warriors, as they outscored the Marauders 9-2. Freshman Ashlyn Simonetti scored both of Ville's second half goals, one in each quarter.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Kada led the Marauder offense with four points off two goals and two assists, she also recorded a team-high seven draw controls.
• Simonetti and Grace Cobaugh each recorded two points, Gillian Zimmerman recorded one. 
• Kada and Simonetti each fired a team-high three shots on frame.
Morgan Scott led the team with a team-high five ground balls, she also recorded 16 saves in the loss, a career-high for the freshman keeper.
• The Warriors outshot the Marauders 44-11, including 35-9 on goal.
• Millersville was 10-19 on clears, while ESU was 17-20. 
• ESU held the edge in draw controls, 15-14.

On the team's play: "Throughout the game we saw moments of greatness but has a number of unforced errors that ESU was able to capitalize on."
On Morgan Scott: "Morgan played a great game today. She was a steady presence in the cage with strong communication. She stepped up the challenge."
 •On learning from the loss: "It's good to see this type of team early in conference play, so that we can learn and make adjustments. It can only make us better overall."

UP NEXT
• Millersville will continue PSAC East play against No. 5 West Chester on Saturday, March 19 on Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.
