Lister reaches milestone in loss to West Chester

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. –  Lauren Lister, the Millersville women's basketball all-time leading scorer, has now become the first 2,000-point scorer in program history. The redshirt senior cut to the paint and received a pass from Erika Reed at the 5:25 minute mark in the second quarter, she was then able to finish through contact at the rim to cement her historic career. Lister would join the broadcast for an interview during halftime of the men's game. Click here to see the full interview.

The Marauders missed out on a chance to clinch the final spot in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East tonight, falling to West Chester, 73-53. 'Ville will now head into Saturday needing a win, plus some help around the league to earn a postseason berth.

West Chester (8-18, 6-15 PSAC) had a strong start, scoring the first points of the game and limiting the Marauders (7-9, 6-15 PSAC) to single digits until late in the first quarter. Millersville evened the score with a lay-up by Makiah Shaw, however, West Chester saw their best shooting in the first and continued to advance past the Marauders. With 75% shooting from beyond the arc and 47.37% from the field, the Golden Rams ended the quarter with a 10-point lead.

Lister's 2,000th point came halfway through the second. Erika Reed scanned the floor and gave a quick overhead pass to Lister in the paint, who turned for a lay-up and was fouled on the way up. The scoring between the two teams was balanced throughout the second, but West Chester still outscored Millersville 15-13.

The Marauders were never able to reach West Chester's lead during the final two quarters and fell by a 20-point deficit. Along with her milestone, Lister led the Marauders with 12 points. She also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out two assists. Shaw contributed nine points and grabbed four rebounds on the night.

POST GAME REACTION FROM HEAD COACH SHARAY HALL
  • On the team's play: "Today, our shots didn't fall and we didn't contain on defense. Moving to Saturday, we have to compete and play together for 40 minutes; it will be crucial for us to rebound and defend the three-point line against Lock Haven."
  • On Lauren Lister"I am extremely proud of Lo [Lauren] for her accomplishment. There are not a lot of players in this leagues history who have reached that milestone. Behind the scenes, she has bought in and done an amazing job at becoming a great all-around player; she deserves this."
