Marauders fall to Shepherd; Look forward to key PSAC games next week

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – The Millersville women's basketball team fell to Shepherd Wednesday night on the road, 88-66.

Shepherd (19-6, 13-6 PSAC) was able to get off to a hot start in the first quarter, jumping out to a 16-4 lead through the first five minutes of play. Millersville ( 7-18, 6-14 PSAC) cut into that lead towards the end of the quarter, bringing themselves within five of the Rams with 45 seconds remaining. However, Marley McLaughlin, who scored a game-high 25 points, drilled a three with 22 seconds left in the quarter to give her team an eight-point advantage heading into the second.

The Marauders played a more complete ten minutes in the second quarter but still were outscored 18-13 by the top offense in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). That trend continued in the third quarter as the Rams put up 22 points compared to the 'Ville 10, allowing the home team to take a comfortable 25-point lead before the final quarter.

Millersville saw its strongest offensive performance of the night come in the fourth quarter, putting up 27 points, ten from Lauren Lister, and outscoring the Rams 27-24.

Lister led Millersville with 22 points, while Ty Taylor scored 13 and Makiah Shaw followed with 11. Christina Brown posted one of her most impressive games as a Marauder off the bench, scoring seven points, dishing out seven assists, and grabbing four boards.

The Marauders will take their bye this Saturday and focus on matchups against West Chester and Lock Haven next week. Coach Hall and her team are currently tied with Mansfield for the final playoff spot in the PSAC East.
