KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Millersville women's basketball dropped a rematch to No. 21 Kutztown Monday night on the road, 65-46.
The Marauders saw their largest lead of Monday's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East matchup come at the 7:37 mark in the first quarter, as they led 5-0. The Golden Bears would capture that lead with just over two minutes remaining in the first quarter and keep it for the remainder of the game.
The Marauders strongest comeback push came at the start of the second quarter when they went on an 8-2 run that cut Kutztown's lead down to two points; However, 'Ville then surrendered a 15-2 Golden Bear run, giving KU a 15-point advantage going into the half. The Golden Bears would hold a near 20-point lead for the majority of second half action, leading to their eventual win.
Kutztown's victory moves them to a PSAC East best, 21-5 (14-3 PSAC). The Marauders fall to 7-17 (6-13 PSAC).
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Makiah Shaw made a layup that capped of an 8-2 'Ville run to bring the Marauders within two of Kutztown midway through the second quarter. Shaw scored six of those eight points and nine total in the first half.
- Following the Marauder run, the Golden Bears put a 15-2 run of their own together. Abby Hearn scored nine of those huge 15 points, allowing Kutztown to enter the half with a generous 15-point lead.
- Redshirt Senior, Lauren Lister rattled off 11 fourth quarter points in an attempt to pull Millersville back into the game. She finished the game with a team-high 16.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Marauders held the edge in points in the pant (26-24) and fast break points (14-7).
- The Golden Bears held the edge in points off turnovers (17-12), second chance points (11-4), and bench points (24-3).
- Each team committed 15 turnovers on the night.
- Millersville finished the game shooting 37% from the floor and 50% from the free-throw line. They shot a team-high 53% in the fourth quarter.
- Lister finished the game tied for a game-high in points (16) and rebounds (7). Shaw followed with 13 points in the loss.
- Brenna Ortwein tied her career-high, dishing out five assists.

- On the team's performance: "Tonight we wern't as aggressive as we were the first time we matched up with Kutztown. Our shots didn't fall and they were tougher on the boards."
- On playing three games in a week: "It's been a tough season for us playing three games in a week; However, we will have to regroup and focus in on Shepherd and our final stretch of games."
