Pitt-Johnstown stops Marauders' streak

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Millersville struggled at the offensive end in the second half, and Pitt-Johnstown stopped Millersville's winning streak at five by a 68-56 final Monday afternoon.

Millersville suffered its first PSAC loss, falling to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in league play while Pitt-Johnstown improved to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in league play. The Mountain Cats completed a weekend sweep of its two PSAC East opponents, and their only losses have come against nationally-ranked teams.

The Marauders trailed by just five at the half, but missed seven of its first eight shots from the field and committed three turnovers while scoring just five points in the first nine minutes of the second half. Millersville also missed its first six 3-pointer attempts of the second half--a cold spell that allowed Pitt-Johnstown to open 15-point lead. The Marauders did not make a three until just over six minutes remaining and finished the final 20 minutes 2-of-11 from deep. Turnovers were also a problem for the Marauders in the second half as they committed 10.

Millersville made 5-of-20 threes in the game and shot 40% from the field. Pitt-Johnstown built its 40-35 halftime lead by 62.9% shooting from the field and managed to stay in front despite shooting 35.7% in the second half.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Matt Dade scored 13 of his 15 points in the first half, but after scoring Millersville's first points on the first possession of the second half, he was unable to score again. Drew Stover scored 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting.
• Millersville was not at full strength as starting forward Justin Nwosu missed most of the game with an illness. He played only six minutes in Sunday's game at Clarion as well.
• Pitt-Johnstown committed just 10 turnovers, and Millersville recorded just one steal--a season low. Millersville had tallied at least eight steals in each of the previous seven games.

UP NEXT
• Millersville is off until Dec. 30 when it hosts undefeated and No. 2-ranked Indiana (Pa.) at Pucillo Gymnasium in a rematch of the 2022 PSAC championship game.
