ABOUT THE GAME

  • Millersville has won four of its last six games while Seton Hill is looking to close 2022 with three-straight wins. The Marauders are 2-3 on the road and 1-0 all-time at Seton Hill.
  • Millersville finished its PSAC East schedule with four wins for the first time since 2000, landing in a tie for third place. It is Millersville's best finish in the East since 2000. Millersville's last six games include the program's first win over Shippensburg since 2000 and the first win over Bloomsburg since 1999. Now, Millersville is aiming for five total wins for the first time since 2006. Millersville has not won a season finale since 2015 and since the creation of the PSAC Championship game in 2008, the Marauders are 1-12 against PSAC West teams in the final game of the regular season and 0-7 on the road.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Millersville rumbled for 250 yards rushing against Bloomsburg, which was the third time this season that the Marauders have rushed for at least 250 yards. Millersville is 4-0 when rushing for at least 115 yards and 3-0 when scoring at least two rushing touchdowns. Millersville totaled four rushing touchdowns last week at Bloomsburg, which was the second time this season the Marauders have scored four TDs on the ground. Millersville totaled just 261 rushing yards and averaged 2.16 yards per carry in the first four games of the season, but over the last five games, Millersville has rushed for 1,097 yards at 4.1 yards per carry. Millersville is 4-1 when attempting at least 39 runs.
  • An effective running game also opens up explosive passing plays. Millersville has completed at least one pass of 40 or more yards in seven games.
  • Running back Jaheim Morris set career highs in both carries (28) and yards (171) at Bloomsburg last week, and he's vaulted up to fifth in the PSAC in rushing and also ranks 10th in the league in touchdowns with eight. He's run for five and caught three. Morris' 742 rushing yards are already the most by a Marauder since Ian Sadan recorded 1,062 in 2013. Only four Marauder backs have rushed for over 500 yards since 2010. Morris' eight touchdowns are the most by a Marauder since Kevin Wiggins' eight in 2015. No Marauder has scored more than eight since Jamal Smith totaled 13 in 2010. The last Marauder running back to score more than eight touchdowns was Juan Jones (17) in 2005.
  • Marcus Pierce Jr. has also been an important part of the running game as he's scored four touchdowns. Millersville is 3-0 when Pierce received double-digit carries, and he's recorded at least 56 yards in all three of those games.
  • Remarkably, Millersville won last week despite playing three players at quarterback. Injuries have made stability at the position a challenge. Last week, Jack Stagaard received his first start since week one and went 7-of-9 for 129 yards before leaving the game after scoring a rushing touchdown in the second quarter. Luke Thomas has taken snaps in three games, and Robert Footman Jr. was 3-2 as the team's primary quarterback but hasn't played since an injury at Kutztown. Anthony Butler started in week two and week three and has thrown a pass in four other games. Butler played the bulk of the snaps in the second half against Bloomsburg but attempted just two passes. Butler has three TD passes to one interception.
  • Millersville's defense has generated at least one turnover in eight of 10 games and in two in a row. Conner Snyder leads the team with three fumble recoveries. Steve Sweeney and Gus Ross lead the Marauders with two interceptions each. Chase Alisauckas recorded his first career interception last week.

SCOUTING THE GRIFFINS

  • Seton Hill has quickly put an 0-8 start behind it with consecutive victories over Edinboro (45-14) and Mercyhurst (7-0). The Griffins have excelled on defense the last two weeks, picking off two passes and returning one for a touchdown and recovering two fumbles against Edinboro before blanking Mercyhurst. Seton Hill picked off another pass against Mercyhurst, and Jaylen McDuffie recorded 4 1/2 sacks and a forced fumble, earning himself the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week Award.
  • McDuffiehas been a playmaker for four years, recording double-digit tackles for loss in three-straight seasons. He has posted career highs with 19 1/2 TFL and 10 sacks in 2022. He ranks second in the PSAC in both categories.
  • Seton Hill's defense has been stingy all season, ranking third in the PSAC in yards per game allowed (271.8), and the unit ranks sixth against the run, allowing just 87.6 yards per game. Seton Hill gets after the quarterback, totaling 29 sacks, which is just three shy of the PSAC lead.
  • It is on offense where Seton Hill has struggled. The Griffins rank 15th out of 16 teams in the league in scoring, 16th in total offense, 16th in first downs and 16th in third down conversions (25%). The Griffins have scored more than two offensive touchdowns in a game just once this season.

SERIES HISTORY

  • There isn't much history between Millersville and Seton Hill. Saturday marks only the third meeting all-time, and it is Millersville's second trip to Offutt Field. Each team has one on the opponent's home field with Seton Hill earning a 38-24 win in 2016 and Millersville winning 45-38 on the road in 2017. Both previous meetings have featured a quarterback throwing for more than 300 yards as Seton Hill's Christian Strong threw for 323 in 2016 and 359 in 2017, and Millersville's Collin Shank threw for 424 in 2017.
  • THE LAST MEETING (Millersville 45, Seton Hill 38 (Sept. 9, 2017): Collin Shank threw for 424 yards and accounted for five touchdowns, including two in the final seven minutes as the Marauders rallied from a 38-31 deficit. With 30 seconds to play, Shank connected with Kevin Wiggins from 33 yards out for the game-winning touchdown.

THE LAST TIME OUT

  • Millersville: Millersvilld 25, Bloomsburg 17 (Nov. 5, 2022) - Millersville's win ended a 21-game losing streak against Bloomsburg and was their first win against the Huskies since 1999.
