Marauders fall to Golden Bears in pivotal PSAC East matchup

Team to play final home match of regular season tomorrow against ESU

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville Marauders saw their three-match win streak come to a close on Friday evening at the hands of the Kutztown Golden Bears.
 
Kutztown (12-10, 6-5 PSAC East) swept Millersville (15-11, 5-6 PSAC East) to take sole possession of fifth place in the East standings while the Marauders slipped to sixth. The season series is now split with each team earning a sweep on the road.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
(25-18, 25-19, 25-22)
  • The Marauders jumped ahead 7-5 in set one before a seven-point Kutztown run gave the Bears a 12-7 lead. With the score 19-16, the Bears rattled off another four points to move ahead 23-16 and secure the 1-0 match advantage.
  • Set two saw the Bears lead from start to finish. Leading 3-2 the Bears scored five straight and led by two or more points for the rest of the set. The lone Marauder run came with Ville trailing 16-9 as the Marauders scored four straight to cut the deficit to three.
  • The third set saw Millersville take a 6-3 lead after scoring five straight points highlighted by kills from Kylie Airesman and Rose Vail. Kutztown re-took the lead at 12-11 on a Marauder attacking error and held onto the lead for the rest of the set. The Marauders got back within one on another kill by Airesman but could not complete the comeback, falling in straight sets.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Laurel Samko led the team in kills with eight, while Airesman had seven and Vail had six.
  • Vail and Rylee Thomas each recorded a team high four blocks.
  • Emma Ludwig recorded 21 assists.
  • Becca Dalstad picked up another 15 digs while Ludwig trailed with nine.

On the seniors playing their final home match tomorrow: "It's really been a pleasure to coach this group of seniors. Many of them have established lifelong relationships and it was fun to witness their growth.  I'll miss them."
UP NEXT
  • The Marauders wrap the home portion of their schedule tomorrow against the East Stroudsburg Warriors. First serve is set for 2 p.m. as the team will honor its seven seniors prior to the match.
