Millersville sweeps East Stroudsburg to earn win on senior day

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Playing at home for the final time this season, the Millersville Marauders picked up a dominant 3-0 win over the East Stroudsburg Warriors.
 
Millersville (16-11, 6-6 PSAC East) moved into a three-way tie for fourth place in the PSAC East standings with the win as ESU (12-13, 6-6 PSAC East) fell into that same tie with 'Ville and Kutztown. Those three teams will enter the final week of the regular season fighting for the final spot in the playoff picture in the East. The season series is now split between 'Ville and ESU with each team picking up a sweep at home. Millersville is also split in its season series against Kutztown, with those sweeps occurring on the road. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
(25-17, 25-23, 25-18)
  • The Marauders worked ahead 9-3 in the first set and led comfortably from end to end. Following a four-point Marauder rally, the Warriors never got back within five. 'Ville recorded a match high 14 kills and 0.278 attack percentage to move ahead 1-0.
  • The second set also began with a Millersville lead, as three Rose Vail kills helped the Marauders start off with a 6-3 lead. With Millersville leading 19-13, the Warriors began to battle back, scoring eight of the next ten points to cut the Marauder lead to just two. ESU would earn its first tie of the set on an ace to knot things up at 22-22. A serving error on the following play allowed 'Ville to retake the lead for good. Kills from Emma Ludwig and Rylee Thomas closed out the set to put the Marauders ahead 2-0.
  • The third set started off the as the closest of the match, with nine ties occurring from the start of the set until the final tie at 12-12. It was there that Millersville put together a seven-point rally to move ahead 18-12. Play was nearly point-for-point the rest of the way, with the lone Marauder rally proving to be the difference.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Marauders dominated the service line, with a 10 to four advantage in aces. Emily Hoffman led the team with three aces, giving her 40 on the season. That mark is good for eighth in the PSAC.
  • Laurel Samko led the Marauders in kills for the second straight match, recording 12 kills in the sweep. Vail finished second on the team with eight kills.
  • Ludwig finished with 30 assists, giving her 30 or more assists for the ninth time this season and fourth time in her last five matches.
  • Becca Dalstad led the team in digs with 14. She now has 1,180 digs for her career and sits just 18 digs shy of tying Erin Harman (2014-17) for ninth on the all-time digs list.
  • Rachel Vivolo added a season high 10 digs.

UP NEXT
  • The Marauders conclude their regular season slate of matches on the road next weekend. Millersville will take on Shippensburg on Friday and Shepherd on Saturday in its final pair of PSAC East matchups.
