ABOUT THE MATCH
- Millersville hosts its second consecutive PSAC dual against a nationally-ranked opponent as No. 12 and undefeated Kutztown comes to Pucillo Gymnasium on Friday night for a 7 p.m. start. The Marauders are 4-2 in duals and are coming off a 27-14 loss to No. 6 Gannon in which they wrestled tough against several nationally-ranked wrestlers. Kutztown presents a similar challenge with four grapplers in the nation's top 16 including No. 1 ranked Andrew Dunn at 285 pounds.
SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS
- 184-pound Anthony Giampietro is coming off a pinfall victory over a former national qualifer, and his start to 2022 has been outstanding. He was named PSAC Wrestler of the Week on Monday, and he is now 6-1 with his lone loss coming to Brock Delsignore of Division I North Carolina State. Giampietro owns two major decisions and a pin. His recent run has opened eyes, and he has vaulted all the way to No. 2 in the Super Region 1 rankings.
- Guy DeLeonardis is another Marauder that has suprised, as the first-year grappler has quickly worked his way up to No. 3 in the Super Region 1 rankings at 165 pounds. DeLeonardis lost a narrow 3-1 decision to the nation's No. 1 wrestler his last time out and is now 12-9 on the season.
- Devin Flannery is riding a six-match winning streak at 133 pounds. The only two blemishes on his 9-2 record were both against Division I foes, and he has been unbeaten since Dec. 5. His recent run includes a trio of technical falls and pin in 51 seconds. He is ranked No. 5 in Super Region 1.
- Redshirt freshman Bishop McCoy has wrestled tough against some of the best competition in the country at 285 pounds. He's 13-10 and recently lost a narrow 3-2 overtime decision to Gannon's nationally-ranked Freddie Nixon. McCoy leads the Marauders with four pins.
- Freshman Bryce Beatty has moved into the starting spot at 125 pounds and has responded with a 5-2 record in duals. He is coming off a 9-7 victory against Chris Petteys of Gannon.
- Anthony Yacovetti is off to a strong start to the season as well, owning an 8-2 record. Most recently, he was edged by 12th-ranked Joey Petrella of Gannon, 4-2. But Yacovetti owns three tech falls and a pair of pins.
- Tim Uhler, a redshirt freshman at 141 pounds, is now 7-4 and has worked his way to a No. 6 ranking in Super Region 1. Jonathan Parrilla is No. 5 in Super Region 1 at 157 pounds.
- According to the Super Region 1 rankings, Millersville may have the edge at 141, 157, 165 and 184 with the 174-pound match-up looking like a toss-up.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS
- Kutztown is coming off a team win at the Virginia Duals. The team is headlined by Andrew Dunn Jr., who was named the PSAC Wrestler of the Week two weeks ago. Dunn is a two-time All-American and the 2019 NCAA champion. He entered the season with a 46-2 record and has continued to be a steamroller, posting an 11-0 record with five pins.
- Matt Wilde is ranked No. 12 at 125, and Collin Wickramaratna is No. 10 nationally and No. 1 in Super Region 1 at 133 pounds. Michael Cusick is Intermat Wrestling's No. 16-ranked wrestler at 149 pounds. Ethan Baney is also ranked No. 16 at 174 pounds. Baney is one spot ahead of Millersville's Yacovetti in the Super Region 1 rankings, so that match will have an impact on seedings at the super region championships.
- While Millersville's lineup includes eight wrestlers at sophomore or freshman eligibility, Kutztown boasts five grad students or seniors.
