Millersville hosts Bloomsburg Saturday in first game of the new year

ABOUT THE GAME

  • Millersville opens up Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East play on Saturday against second-place Bloomsburg at 1 p.m. in Pucillo Gymnasium. The Huskies have four PSAC East games under their belt and have came out of each victorious, beating Lock Haven twice, East Stroudsburg, and Shepherd. The Marauders will look to earn their first conference win in the afternoon matchup.

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Millersville’s all-time leading scoring, Lauren Lister, is currently leading the team in scoring this season at 11.4 points per game. The redshirt senior is shooting 45% from the floor and 57% from the charity strike.
  • Redshirt sophomore, La'Shyra Williams was able to strong together one of her best games of the season against Goldey-Beacom, scoring 10 points to go along with seven boards. The center also played a career-high in minutes at 25, look for her to provide offense for the Marauders on Saturday.
  • The Marauder defense was able to hold Goldey-Beacom to just 32 points through the first three quarters, hold the Lightning to 33.3% from the field, and just under 40% from beyond the arch. 'Ville will look to replicate that play on Saturday.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES

  • Bloomsburg is coming off its best win of the season, as they took down No. 24 Shepherd on the road, 71-60. They were able to hold the Ram's high-powered offense to 60 points, which was their second lowest total of the season. 
  • The Huskies offer a very balanced attack with two players averaging double-digits and three averaging just under at 6.4 points per game. Their two top performers so far have been Emma Saxton and Meghan Corridoni. Saxton leads the team scoring (14.3), assists (4.1), and steals (1.7) this season. Corridoni ranks second in scoring (12.9) and first in rebounding (8.1), blocks (1.4), and free throw percentage at 78%.

THE LAST TIME OUT

  • Millersville: Goldey-Beacom 57, Millersville 50 (Dec. 31, 2021) - The Marauders led throughout first three quarters of play and as much as 11 in the fourth; However, a late Lightning rally spoiled the day for Millersville.
  • Bloomsburg: Bloomsburg 71, Shepherd 60 - The Huskies are currently on a four-game winning streak and most recently took down a very tough Shepherd team that ranks first in virtually every offensive category in the PSAC.

  • The Marauders have a chance to even the all-time series against Bloomsburg on Saturday, it currently sits at 43-44 in favor of the Huskies.
