Millersville volleyball downed twice in region crossover

WHEELING, W.Va. - Millersville struggled to find its groove on the attack in a pair of three-set losses to Fairmont State and Wheeling Saturday in the PSAC/Mountain East Atlantic Region crossover.

The two sweeps gave Millersville a 1-3 weekend record and put its season record at 4-10 overall.

FAIRMONT STATE 3, MILLERSVILLE 0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-20) | Box Score
• Millersville's own miscues ultimately cost it in a three-set sweep. Millersville committed 21 hitting errors, six, five receiving errors, and five service errors while mustering 28 kills and one ace. The Marauders hit -.097 in set one, .194 in set two and .098 in set three.
Lauren Lucas led the Marauders with eight kills on 27 attacks (.074). Emma Ludwig totaled 24 assists. Emily Hoffman led the team with 10 digs. Becca Dalstad recorded the team's lone ace.

WHEELING 3, MILLERSVILLE 0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-14)
• In a rematch of the 2019 NCAA Atlantic Regional second round, Wheeling totaled 45 kills to Millersville's 31 and bounced Millersville in straight sets. Wheeling hit an efficient .316 while also limiting Millersville to a -.023 hitting percentage in set two, and a .105 hitting percentage in set three.
• Millersville's best chance to take a set came in the first. Trailing 20-16, Millersville received kills from Emma Ludwig and Lauren Lucas and a couple of hitting errors by Wheeling for four-straight points, cutting the deficit to one. Wheeling answered back with three of the next four points. Caitlyn Callahan struck for two kills to make the score 23-21 in favor of Wheeling. Millersville could get no closer than two, however, as the teams traded points and a ball handling error on Millersville ended the set.
• In set two, the Marauders trailed 6-5 when Wheeling ripped off points on seven of the next eight rallies. Millersville came no closer than seven the rest of the way. Wheeling finished the set with 12 kills and no errors while Millersville committed nine errors to eight kills.
• The third set was much of the same. After Millersville scored the first three points, Wheeling scored six in a row. The Marauders found offense tough to come by as they managed eight kills for the second set in a row.
Emily Hoffman led Millersville with eight kills on 32 swings (.125). Wheeling's Lexi Reinert led her team with nine kills and one error on 18 hits (.444).
