Newcomers highlight success for men's tennis opening invitational

Box Score BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Millersville men's tennis team opened its fall campaign over the weekend with a trip to the Bloomsburg Invitational, which featured athletes from both Division I and Division II programs. 

The event included three doubles draws with a three-round tournament format and five singles draws with each player playing up to three matches. Millersville newcomers Jasper de Koning and Dylan Tull, as well as returner Ting-Yu Yen senior ace Carlos Martinez-Lucas highlighted Millersville success in singles. 

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
• Martinez-Lucas, playing in the gold draw, posted a 2-1 record that included a straight-set win over Bloomsburg's Benjamin Clary and a three-set battle over a Morgan State athlete. Martinez-Lucas' lone loss was a 6-2, 6-0 decision against Bucknell's Nick Mueller. Martinez-Lucas and Frank Yanni also paired for a 1-1 record in the gold draw doubles, beating a team from Bucknell 6-4 in the quarterfinals. 
• Jasper de Koning played in the orange draw and went 2-0. Yen also went 2-0 in the orange draw, and those two paired together for a 2-1 record in the silver doubles draw, reaching the finals before bowing out to Mercyhurst's entry, 6-0. 
• Tull, a freshman, posted a 2-1 record in the maroon singles draw.

• Millersville returns to Bloomsburg on Sept. 18 for the three-day ITA Regional Tournament.
