INDIANA, Pa. - The Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks were named the 2021 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Champions Friday by the PSAC office. IUP was scheduled to play Millersville University in the championship match Saturday, but the Marauders had to withdrawal from the tournament due to COVID-19 protocols.
The championship match was declared a no-contest. Millersville finishes the season 8-4 and reached the PSAC Tournament championship match for the first time since 2004 after defeating Bloomsburg in the quarterfinals and West Chester in the semifinal. Millersville will be entered in the record books as the PSAC runner-up.
"Congratulations to IUP on a great season. They are a very worthy champion, though I'm sure they would have preferred to win on the court," said Millersville head coach
Matt Helsel. "Obviously, this has been a very difficult season to navigate. I want to thank all of the players, coaches, administrators and trainers from all schools for working so hard to make this season happen. Ultimately some things are just beyond our control, but this doesn't change how proud I am of this team or how thrilled I am with our season. There are always ups and downs in college sports, and the lessons are in the journey, not the outcome. We've had too many positives this year to let this bring us down. I wouldn't change a thing."
