MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Aliyah Striver won the hammer throw and discus and finished third in the shot put, and Millersville's sprinters combined for 10 top-five finishes, helping the team finish second among six PSAC teams at the 38th annual Millersville Metrics.
In competition Saturday at Biemesderfer Stadium were Millersville, Kutztown, Bloomsburg, East Stroudsburg, Shippensburg and Lock Haven. Millersville piled up 142 points, finishing just behind Kutztown's 170. Millersville has finished in the top two at the Metrics each year since 2013.
Striver, who hit a PR in the hammer just one week ago, did it again on Saturday, hitting 180-10, for the sixth-best distance in Division II this season. She won the event by incredible 39 feet. In the discus, Striver's 139-0 bested teammate
Hannah Woelfling, who threw 135-6. Striver hit 38-6 in the shot put, finishing behind East Stroudsburg's Elizabeth Makar 42-10 1/4) and Katie Mastrisciano (42-5 1/4).
Three Marauders scored team points in the javelin as well.
Kandice Liebl placed fourth with a distance of 115-8.
Cassie Sharrow took sixth with a mark of 110-4.
Catherine Skehan posted a 107-10 for seventh.
Sharrow also competed in the triple jump and placed sixth with a jump of 31-7 1/2.
On the track,
Aurora Conrad turned in a second-consecutive meet with an event win. She won the 200-meter dash in 25.78, edging teammates
Amanda Bruno (26.64) and Gabriela Karch (26.67). Millersville put five runners in the top seven of the race. Conrad also ran the meet's top 100-meter dash time, winning her preliminary heat with a time of 12.62. Lock Haven's Riyana Owens and her 12.76, edged Conrad's 12.80 in the finals.
De'Asia Holloman won her heat in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.62, which was the best time of the day in the event. But in the finals, she ran a 15.91 and placed third.
The Marauders placed three runners in the top eight in the 400-meter dash.
Amanda Bruno took third with a time of 1:00.87. Lyrics Williams finished fourth in 1:01.14, and
Mia Carson placed sixth in 1:01.55.
Freshman
Morgan Janiuk took third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:07.07, a mark that is among the 10 fastest in the PSAC this season.
Jillian Miller (2:27.76) and
Yoangelys Rijo-Cedeno (2:32.15) both scored team points in the 800-meter run by finishing fourth and eighth respectively.
The 4x400-meter relay team of
Abbey Sullivan, Rijo-Cedeno, Jennifer Dohalik and
Brianna Brennan placed fourth with a time of 4:29.69.
Kari Cambria ran a personal-best time of 1:18.12 in the 400-meter hurdles to place eighth.

On Striver's performance: "Aliyah did have a good day. Shot still isn't where she wants it, but she is doing very well in hammer and discus. She definitely is building confidence, and her best is yet to come."
On the value of competing against PSAC teams early in the season: "In the big scheme of things, our athletes now have a better idea of how we measure up against some PSAC schools. We will work to get ready for PSACs in five weeks, but this gives us perspective of what it takes to be successful in the conference."
