Woelfling wins two events at Bill Butler Invitational

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Saturday's Bill Butler Invitational was a coming out party for Millersville sophomore thrower Hannah Woelfling. Woelfling won both the discus and the hammer throw in leading the Marauders track and field team.
Woelfling's entire freshman outdoor season was lost to the Covid-19 pandemic, but she's been incredibly impressive early in her sophomore campaign. Against a deep field that included her senior teammate Aliyah Striver and throwers from East Stroudsburg and West Chester, Woelfling hit 140-4 in the discus to best 18 other throwers. Her hammer throw performance was even better as she hit an NCAA provisional mark of 183-6, which is also the best throw in the PSAC this season.
Striver finished second in both events, posting a 170-9 in the hammer and a 139-7 in the discus. She also placed second in the shot put with a season-best mark of 41-6 1/2.
More Millersville highlights came from the relays. The 4x100-meter relay team of Kari Cambria, Gabriela Karch, Aurora Conrad and De'Asia Holloman ran a season-best time of 49.17 and finished first ahead of both West Chester and East Stroudsburg. The 4x400-meter relay team of Conrad, Karch, Mia Carson and Lyric Williams ran a 3:58.97, finishing second behind only TCNJ and ahead of Kutztown, East Stroudsburg and West Chester. Millersville's time was the second-fastest in the PSAC this season.
Freshman Morgan Janiuk ran a season-best time of 2:20.11 in the 800-meter run, which placed her fourth in a field of 27 runners.
REACTION FROM COACH ANDY YOUNG
On some of the top performances: "Hannah had two very good performances topped by her bomb of a throw in the hammer. Our 4x100 and 4x400 relays looked much-improved today. Morgan Janiuk had a breakthrough performance in the 800 as well."
