MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville women's swim team took first in five events, including a sweep of the relays, in the 2021 season opener at home against East Stroudsburg. The Marauders couldn't pull past the Warriors dropping the meet 147-94.
Millersville came off the block hard claiming first in the 200-yard medley relay. The squad of
Ilana Jacobson,
Maddi Stoner, Rebecca Yeager, and
Leah Miksa finished the race in 1:56.8, three seconds ahead of the ESU squad.
The same group returned to the pool to claim first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:45.71, five seconds faster than the second-place Warrior squad.
"The relay teams had to be mixed up and it wasn't what I designed in the beginning of the year, but our first-year student-athletes are stepping up and making their presence known," said head coach
Eric Usbeck. "They performed really well."
Miksa and Yeager took first and second in the 200 free with times of 2:05.38 and 2:05.68, respectively.
Stoner followed suit in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:11.79 for first.
Coral McBride followed close behind to take third with a time of 1:16.28. Stoner repeated her first-place performance in the 200 breast taking first with a time of 2:40.04.
Jacobson came close in both the 500 free (5:49.86) and 1000 free (12:22.42) taking second in both races. Jacobson touched the wall just a tenth of a second behind East Stroudsburg's Maddie Tafe in the 500 free.
Alex Dolan entered the pool for the first time as a Marauder taking second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:54.72.
"Overall, they did great. There was a lot of excitement, adrenaline, and anxiety getting back into it," said Usbeck. "It is a really great starting point to evaluate where we're at to make adjustments moving forward. But, I'm really pleased with how we performed."
The Marauders travel to East Stroudsburg next on Saturday, April 3 at 1 p.m. The meet will be the final opportunity for the Marauders before the PSAC Championships.
