MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville University women's basketball team (1-5) fell to 0-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play with their 63-56 loss against the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss Millersville is now 0-3 at home as the Marauders have now dropped four straight contests. Their seven-point loss represented the closes game of the season, win or loss, for the Marauders, who were withing striking distance until the final minute of play. The game remained close from start to finish, with seven ties and nine lead changes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Marauders played their best basketball in the first quarter, outscoring the Mountain Cats 18-11 over the first ten minutes of action. Johnstown would win the scoring battle in the remaining three quarters.
- With the game tied at 11-11, 'Ville was able to go on a seven-point run to close the first quarter, which would be the best run of the day.
- The Mountain Cats were able to close the gap in the second quarter, cutting the Marauder lead to just three points at the end of the first half.
- The third quarter made the difference, with Johnstown outscoring Millersville 18-12 and taking the lead for good.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Millersville shot over 40% from the field in the first half, while dropping to 38% in the third quarter. 'Ville struggled towards the end of the game, shooting just 28% in the fourth quarter.
- The Marauders struggled from beyond the arc, failing to convert on a three-point attempt, as 30 of their 56 points came from within the paint.
- 'Ville saw some big minutes from their bench, as the Marauder reserves scored 15 points in the contest, seven of which came in the dominant first quarter.
- Millersville stepped up in transition, outscoring Johnstown 19-9 on fast break opportunities.
- Lauren Lister led the Marauders with 22 points, going 6-13 from the field while accounting for over half of the teams' free throws, as she went 10-12 from the line. She was the lone Marauder in double figures. Lister added six rebounds and two steals in her 29 minutes.
- Bria Beverly turned in one of her better performances of the season, leading the team in rebounds with seven while playing a team high 33 minutes. She also added seven points.
- Brenna Ortwein recorded a team high four steals, followed by Ty Taylor who had three.
- Johnstown was led by Makalyn Clapper who scored a game high 23 points while converting on the only two successful three pointers of the game.
- Olivia Fasick (13) and Ashley Norling (10) were also double-digit scorers for the Mountain Cats.
- Clapper and Fasick recorded a team high four steals apiece.

The Marauders will look for their first conference win of the season this Tuesday at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. Millersville returns home on Dec. 31 to take on Goldey-Beacom to close out the 2021 portion of their schedule.
