INDIANA, Pa. – Millersville women's basketball fell to No. 8 Indiana (Pa.) on the road Tuesday night by a score of 70-40. The Marauders (1-6, 0-3 PSAC) would start the second half strong, but the surge wasn't enough to slow down the high-powered IUP (9-0, 3-0 PSAC) offense.
Millersville will now gear up for two more PSAC West matchups this weekend, as they face off with Seton Hill and California (Pa.).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crimson Hawks jumped out to a 22-9 lead after the first quarter of play, ending the final 3:21 on a 6-0 run. Five of Lauren Lister's seven points came in the quarter.
- Lister would score her last bucket of the night with seven minutes remaining in the second quarter to bring Millersville within 12. However, The Crimson Hawks would expand their lead to 19 before the half.
- The Marauders saw their best play of the night come in the third quarter, starting off on a 9-6 run courtesy of five early-quarter points from Makiah Shaw. IUP would turn on the gas midway through the third and enter the fourth with a 20-point lead.
- The Hawks ended the game on an 8-0 run, as the Marauders' final point of the night came at 3:07 off a Christina Brown free-throw.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Crimson Hawks held the edge in points off turnovers (18-7), points in the paint (38-26), and second chance points (18-12) on the night.
- Millersville finished the game shooting 27.8% from the floor, 14.3% from beyond the arch, and 52.9% from the free-throw line. They shot a team-high 40% in the third quarter of play.
- Shaw led the team in scoring with eight points, while Lister added seven.
- Brenna Ortwein, who leads the team in rebounding, added five more to her season total tonight. La'Shyra Williams also grabbed five boards in the loss.
- Ortwein and Alyssa Rodriques both dished out two assists to lead the team.
UP NEXT
The Marauders head to Greensburg, Pa. for a matchup with PSAC West rival Seton Hill on Saturday, Dec. 18 at 1 p.m.
They will then travel to California, Pa. on Sunday to face off with Cal U at 1 p.m.
