'Ville wrestling readies for three duals on Saturday

| By:
MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The Millersville wrestling team continues its string of duals Saturday with matches against three solid Division III programs in the Hershey Duals, hosted at Middletown High School. Starting at 10 a.m., the Marauders take on Messiah, York and McDaniel.

Millersville is 1-1 in dual action so far, scoring a 41-3 win over Shippensburg before a 33-12 loss to Division I Lock Haven. The Marauders are a young club with only two of the regular 10 starters having wrestled in a collegiate dual prior to this season. But the roster is acclimating to the competition quickly as seven starters have winning records. That group is led by 165-pound Brandon Connor 13-5, and all five of his losses have come against Division I opponents. Bishop McCoy, a redshirt freshman at 285 pound, is 10-5 and that includes a recent sudden victory decision against his opponent from Shippensburg and a first-round pin of Lock Haven's Kaleb Snodgrass.

Jonathan Parrilla's record at 157 pounds is 4-3, but that mark is somewhat deceiving as all three losses have come against Division I foes. One was an 11-10 decision, and the most recent was a narrow 3-1 decision against Lock Haven's Ben Barton, who was nationally-ranked at the time. Anthony Yacovetti has been a nice addition to the lineup at 174 pounds. Yacovetti missed two years of action before returning to the mat on Dec. 11. He's already 3-0 with a pin and a 6-3 win over Lock Haven's Tyler Stoltzfus. 133-pound Devin Flannery also picked up a win against Lock Haven, improving him to 5-2.

McDaniel is off to an outstanding start to its 2021-22 season with a 4-0 and at least 34 points scored in all four duals. The schedule for McDaniel also includes a sixth out of 17 teams at Messiah's recent invitational. Alex LaVecks won the 165-pound weight class in that tournament, and Tony Wuest finished as the runner-up at 285.

Messiah owns a 1-3 dual record but have several formidable wrestlers in the lineup, including Nick Barnhart at 157 pounds. Barnhart is 9-0 and ranked No. 5 in Division III according to InterMat Wrestling.

York's lone dual resulted in a 32-6 loss to TCNJ, but the Spartans have three nationally-ranked wrestlers on the roster. Jared Kuhns is ranked No. 10 at 125 pounds and owns an 11-4 record this season along with 50 career wins. Dalton Rohrbaugh is ranked No. 3 at 133 pounds, and he's 9-0 with five pins. Eric Hutchinson is ranked ninth at 165. The graduate student is 3-1 so far but owns a 63-19 career record and was an NCAA qualifier in 2020.

Millersville and York have not met in a dual since 2013. While Millersville holds a 20-7 edge in the all-time series, York won the previous three meetings. Millersville and Messiah have met just twice before, with Millersville holding a 2-0 record. The clubs last met in the 2019-20 season, with Millersville winning, 21-18. Millersville is also 2-0 all-time against McDaniel, winning the first meeting in 2007-08, and then earning a 37-14 victory in the 2019-20 season.
