
Millersville records five event winners at ESU Invitational

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Millersville women's swim team took first in five events at the East Stroudsburg Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Marauders didn't tally enough points to pull ahead of host East Stroudsburg (90 points), but defeated Kutztown 57-38.
Madisson Cartmill continued to lead the pack recording first-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. Cartmill touched the wall with a time of 1:58.51 in the 200 free shaving two seconds off her previous best 2:00.68 set in the meet against California (Pa.). The time moves the senior into seventh overall in the Millersville record book.
Cartmill also shattered her season-best in the 100 fly finishing the race in 1:00.77, three seconds ahead of her previous best of 1:03.77 set at the dual meet against Cedar Crest and East Stroudsburg.
Maddi Stoner earned her eighth event victory this season with her first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. Stoner shaved about two seconds off her season-best touching the wall in 1:11.89. The sophomore has taken first in the breast three times this season.
Alexis Shollenberger brought home first in the 200-yard backstroke touching the wall in 2:16.62. She also fell just short of her season-best in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.73.
Jessica Berry claimed first in the 200-yard IM coming in six seconds ahead of Kutztown's Jocelyn Seidt. Berry fell just shy of her season-best finishing the race with a time of 2:20.02. Berry also shattered her season-best time in the 100-yard freestyle recording a time of 56.89 coming in second place.
Amanda Simon recorded a lifetime best swim in the 50 free completing the race in 26.82 beating her newly set career-best of 26.89. Simon also took second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:41.48, just under two seconds shy of her season-best.
"We had plenty of good swims today," said head coach Erik Usbeck, "We are in a solid position for PSAC's coming up in just under three weeks."
The Marauders return to the pool at the PSAC Championships in York, Pa. from Feb. 19 through Feb. 23.
