Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Millersville University women's tennis team (2-0) finished its opening weekend strong, dominating Roberts Wesleyan College with a 7-0 victory.
It was the Marauders' second 7-0 win in as many days. Millersville opened the season on Saturday was a 7-0 victory at Daemen College.
Once again, Millersville did not drop a set in the match in singles or doubles.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• The combination of
Esperanza Contador and
Julie Wallace proved lethal once again in flight one doubles. Contador, a junior who transferred from Southwestern College, and Wallace, a freshman, won flight one doubles, 6-0.
• The flight three doubles team of
Kelsey Heckert and
Victoria Hanus opened the season dominated for the second-straight matchup. One day after winning without dropping a point, the duo took their matchup, 6-1.
Jasmine Morris and
Corinne Grohoski had a slightly easier go of it in flight two doubles, grabbing the doubles point by taking the set, 6-3.
• Contador was again pushed in flight ones double by Redhawks sophomore Laura Freeman. After a tight first set, the Millersville junior cruised in the second to grab a point, winning, 7-5, 6-0.
• The rest of the match was not as competitive for the rest of the Marauders. The closest any singles player came to dropping a set was Morris, who prevailed at flight three, 6-4, 6-0. Wallace, Heckert,
Hannah Bryan and Ojeda all wn in straight sets.
QUOTABLE
"Our newcomers are playing well and integrating well into the program, and the returning players have improved from last season," head coach
Matt Helsel said. "This is a fun team to coach and they're very supportive. We've started well, but I know we haven't played our best yet.
NOTES
• This was the first time in program history Millersville's women's tennis team has defeated Roberts Wesleyan. They were 0-3 in previous matchups.
• The Marauders open the season 2-0 for the first time since 2009-10.
• Last season's team did not win its second true road match of the season until April 11.

• The Marauders will be on the road once again with a matchup at Holy Family. The match is on Sept. 11 and will begin at 3 p.m.
