LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Millersville's season-long journey through the PSAC schedule began with a 3-0 victory over the Lock Haven Bald Eagles on Wednesday evening. It was the Marauders' second win of the season and improves the team's overall record to 2-2.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• It did not take long for Millersville to assert itself. Matteo Adiletta got in front of a Lock Haven pass to win possession and sent it ahead to Jacob Gosselin. With just a single touch, Gosselin gave it back to Adiletta with plenty of room to shoot. Matteo rocketed the ball into the net from distance to give the Marauders the lead.
• Gosselin would create more offense just eight minutes later. Nathan Maynard spotted him in the midfield and unlocked the Lock Haven defense with a beautiful ball from deep in Millersville's defensive third. Gosselin headed it down and made an incredible run into the box and the near post, toe poking the ball into the net past the sprawling keeper for a two goal lead.
• There was no more scoring until the 50th minute. It was Maynard again showing off his vision downfield as he picked out freshman Frankie Astarita, sending another deep ball to him. Astarita expertly stayed onside, used his speed to get behind the defense and put it past the goalie in a one-on-one situation to make it 3-0.
POST GAME REACTION FROM HEAD COACH STEVE WIDDOWSON
• On tonight's performance: "It was a very solid performance tonight and much closer to the 90 minute performances we need. I thought we did a much better job of controlling the game today and executing our game plan and I was really happy with some individual performers who raised their game today."
• On Jacob Gosselin (one goal and one assist today) and his veteran leadership: "Jake is getting to a level where we have always known he is capable of playing at. Consistency is his big thing and his levels have been more consistent so far and he is getting his reward for it. We now need to keep working together to maintain that consistency and while also bringing along other guys. We can't just rely on Jake all season. The best players make other players around them better. That is what Jake is starting to do and it's very pleasing to see."
• On momentum and confidence moving forward: "Momentum is one thing but I think even more important is confidence. Confidence in what we are trying to do and confidence in each other. I think today helped to raise those confidence levels."
