LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Saturday marked track and field athletes' last chance to qualify or improve seeding for next week's PSAC Outdoor Championships. At Lock Haven's Last Chance meet, the highlight for Millersville's performances was Aliyah Striver improving her NCAA provisional qualifying mark and placing first in the shot put.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
• Striver entered the meet ranked third in the PSAC in the shot put, but jumped into second with a heave of 48-4 1/4--15 1/2 inches better than her previous career-best. Teammate Madison Martin placed second with her own career-best of 42-1 1/2.
• Striver also finished second in the discus with a toss of 136-6. Sunflower Greene won the event with a throw of 145-6.
• Freshman Gabriela Karch ran a PR of 12.61 in the prelims of the 100-meter dash, missing a PSAC qualifying time by one-hundreth of a second. She could not improve upon that time in the finals, running a 12.84.
• Freshman Jillian Miller placed second in the 800-meter run and ran a career-best time of 2:23.88 but missed qualifying for the PSAC Championships by just .33.
• Yoangelys Rijo-Cedeno nearly hit a qualifying time in the 400-meter run. Her 1:00.52 missed the cut by .12.
WHAT COACH ANDY YOUNG HAD TO SAY
• "Aliyah continues to improve with a big PR in the shot today. It's very satisfying to see her hard work paying off."
• "We had some near-misses and strong performances from [Gabriela Karch] in the 100, Yoangels in 400 and Jillian and Millie Davis in the 800. All in all, it was a good meet to end the season on for some, and to set the stage for our championships for others."
NOTES
• Millersville will have 25 entries in individual events at the PSAC Championships. Athletes ranked in the top eight include Clara Forney and Lenaiya Flowers who are ranked 1-2 in the 400-meter dash. Sunflower Greene ranks first in the shot put, discus and hammer throw. Martin ranks third in the discus and hammer and eighth in the shot put. Striver is second in the shot put, fourth in the discus and sixth in the hammer. Stephanie Garner is eighth in the hammer.
