Softball loses two to Shippensburg; Raiders walk-off in game one

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Millersville University softball team suffered a sweep to PSAC foe Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon. The Marauders led 5-0 in game one but Shippensburg powered back to walk-off in the bottom of the seventh. In game two, the Raiders completed the sweep with a 4-1 win.

The Marauders fall to (16-21, 1-5 PSAC) while the Raiders improve to (19-13, 4-2 PSAC).

Faith Willenbrock went 3-for-6 with a three-run home run in game one.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
• The Marauders claimed an early 1-0 lead from a Maggie Murphy RBI single in the top of the first. Millersville held the one-run advantage until the top of the fifth when Willenbrock sent a three-run home run out of the park. Hunter Little hit a solo home run, putting the Marauders up 5-0.
Catherine Johnson allowed two hits through the first five innings. Shippensburg ended the Marauders' chance for a shutout with an RBI single in the sixth. The Raiders used a five-run final inning comeback to walk off with the win.
• Murphy and Rebecca Blatt had two hits each on the day.
• Johnson threw 6 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits and striking out one batter. Maddie Guinane pitched the final two outs, allowing one hit.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
• The Raiders scored first with one in the bottom of the second. Millersville tied the game in the top of the fourth on an Allie Janowiak bunt that scored Brianna Battavio. In the next half inning, Shippensburg opened the lead with a two-run home run.
• Shippensburg maintained the momentum until the end, scoring one run off a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth. 
• Willenbrock had the lone two hits for the Marauders in game two.
Brianna White started in game two and threw the first three innings with six hits allowed, two strikeouts and three runs. Emma Bevard pitched the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and one run.

NOTES
• Willenbrock improved her batting average to .400 and upped her slugging percentage to .790. Willenbrock added her ninth home run of the season.
• Game one's two-hitter for Shippensburg was the fifth time that the Marauders have had two or less hits in a game.

UP NEXT
• The Marauders will be back in action Sunday, April 7 when they travel to Goldey-Beacom for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
