Women's lacrosse snaps three-game losing streak with big PSAC win over Kutztown

Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville University women's lacrosse team dominated on both sides of the field in an impressive 16-6 win over Kutztown on Tuesday afternoon on Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium. The six goals are the fewest the Marauders have allowed to a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent this season.

Millersville (8-6, 6-3 PSAC) has surpassed its conference win total from the previous two seasons, while the Golden Bears (6-7, 5-5 PSAC) fall to 3-5 on the road this season.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• The Marauders scored the first two goals of the game and Kutztown quickly responded with two of its own to even the score. From there the Millersville defense did not allow a goal for nearly 20 minutes, while five different Marauders scored the next five goals to give their team a 7-2 lead.
• The only instance the Golden Bears gave Millersville any sort of scare came at the end of the first half when Lauren Schmidt scored two goals for Kutztown, including one at the final second to send her team into halftime down just 7-4.
• However, the Marauders were even more dominant in the second half than in the first. They scored the first two goals of the period and allowed just two more to the Golden Bears, eventually outscoring them 9-2 over the course of the second half.
• Although Millersville had just a slight edge in shots (28-27) and shots on goal (19-16), the huge difference in the score was thanks to Shannon Davis who made 10 stops in net.

COACH CINDY WILSON QUOTES
• "We got into a rhythm and did a good job of executing our game plan, especially on offense. We started to click all over the field and had some different people in different spots and it was great to see them come together to get the job done."
• "Our defense has done a really good job throughout the whole season. They've gelled well and the core group we have back there has worked well together and they protect our eight and our goalie very well."
• "Shannon Davis stepped up today. She played very well, was confident and came up with some really big saves for us. It was an all-around great game for her."
• "This was a game that we really needed. Hopefully this gives us some confidence going into the remainder of our regular season. We're looking forward to getting back at it on Saturday."
