West Chester’s offense overpowers Millersville in sweep

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville University softball team was shut out 6-0 in the first game of Friday afternoon's doubleheader against West Chester at Seaber Softball Stadium. The Marauders tied game two at 3-3 heading into the sixth inning but the Golden Rams scored 10 runs in the seventh to earn the sweep.

The doubleheader sweep put the Marauders' overall record to 18-25 (1-7 PSAC East).

GAME ONE RECAP (WEST CHESTER 6, MILLERSVILLE 0)
• The Golden Rams put themselves on the board first with a two-run top of the second. In the next half inning, West Chester added another two, starting with Courtney Stump tripling to right field which scored one. Shortly after, Tori McCoach contributed a RBI single. The Golden Rams led 4-0 after the third.
• Millersville had bases loaded opportunities in the third and sixth innings but West Chester was able keep Millersville from scoring both times.
• Janowiak was the only Marauder to have two hits. 
• In the top of the fifth, Catherine Johnson struck out the 100th batter of her collegiate career and finished with six strikeouts on the day. Johnson finished her outing with 10 allowed hits, three earned runs and four walks. Johnson earned her sixth complete game.

GAME TWO RECAP (WEST CHESTER 13, MILLERSVILLE 3)
• Millersville tallied the first runs of the game, scoring two in the bottom of the second. Off a wild pitch, Janowiak scored and that was followed by Willenbrock's sacrifice fly which scored Brianna Battavio.
• West Chester responded in the next half inning with three runs, taking momentum back with a 3-2 lead. The Marauders tied the game off a Maggie Murphy double, scoring Sam Waldman from first base in the fourth.
• The score remained tied until West Chester's 10-run seventh.
• Janowiak, Murphy and Hunter Little recorded one hit each.
Emma Bevard pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing nine hits, five runs and three walks while striking out three batters. Maddie Guinane and Paige Harris came into relief during the seventh. West Chester's pitcher Maegen Kavangh struck out seven batters.

NOTES
• The Golden Rams kept the Marauders to five hits in game one and three in the second game.
• Game two's run total was Millersville's most against the Golden Rams since April 21 2017.

• The Marauders have another PSAC East matchup in 24 hours they host East Stroudsburg. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
