Millersville’s bats and pitching shine in sweep over Bowie State

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville University softball team excelled in all facets of the game in the doubleheader sweep over Bowie State on Tuesday afternoon at Seaber Softball Stadium. Millersville won 9-1 in game one and followed up with a 10-0 shutout triumph in game two thanks to Catherine Johnson's 11 strikeouts.

The Marauders improve to 11-10 while the Bulldogs drop to 3-10 on the season. Millersville added its seventh straight win over Bowie State.

Allie Janowiak went 4-for-5 with three RBIs in the doubleheader. Johnson contributed both on offense and defense. In game one, she went 2-for-3 and two RBIs while in the second game pitched lights out allowing three hits and no runs in her fourth complete game of the season.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
• Scoring started in the bottom of the first when Rebecca Blatt and Johnson recorded RBI singles for a 2-0 lead. Bowie State responded with the lone home run of the day in the next half inning.
• In the second, Janowiak, Faith Willenbrock and Johnson each had an RBI single, extending the Marauders' lead to 5-1. Janowiak led the third inning charge with a double, scoring two runners and pushing the lead to 7-1. Two at-bats later, Blatt found a hole in the left side and Janowiak scored.
• Millersville clinched the victory by a Devan Masciulli RBI sacrifice fly which secured the eight-run advantage.
• Janowiak, Brianna Battavio and Johnson all went 2-for-3. The Marauders totaled 12 hits in the game.
• On the mound, Emma Bevard pitched in the first three innings, allowing five hits and one run. Paige Harris came into relief and threw the remaining innings. She gave up one hit and struck out three batters.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
• Millersville scored three or more runs in three different innings while allowing only three hits in game two.
• Millersville opened the contest with runs coming from Willenbrock and Hunter Little. In the second, Masciulli doubled to right center, scoring Brittany Little and extended the game to a 3-0 Millersville advantage. Later in the inning, Blatt singled to center field, adding two runs to the scoreboard. Blatt's two RBI single opened the lead to 6-0.
• In the bottom of the fourth, Blatt doubled down the left field line with bases loaded, scoring all runners. After Blatt's double, Willenbrock brought home her teammate with a single to left field, ending the Marauders scoring.
• Blatt, Willenbrock, Masciulli and Janowiak had two hits each in the victory. Blatt finished the game with a team-high five RBIs.

NOTES
• Game two was the Marauders' first shutout of the season.
Alexis Staniec recorded her first collegiate triple in game one. Johnson's 11 strikeout's were a carer high.
• Johnson and Janowiak hold the longest hitting streaks of the team with four.

• The Marauders have 24 hours to prep for their next game on Wednesday, March 19 as they host Pitt-Johnstown. First pitch is at 2 p.m.
