
Cartmill breaks records to lead Marauders to fourth-place finish

MADISON, N.J. – Senior Madisson Cartmill shattered the school record in the 400-yard individual medley to lead the Marauders to a fourth-place finish at the Ranger Invitational. Millersville earned a team total of 99 to come in ahead of Fairleigh Dickinson (93.5) and Marywood (9).
Cartmill claimed first-place in 400 IM touching the wall with a final time of 4:38.58 just over four seconds under the previous Millersville program record. The time cleared a PSAC cut by 22 seconds. She swam a career-best 2:11.66 in the 200-yard individual medley.
Cartmill saw a second first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke recording a time of 59.74, again clearing the PSAC qualifying time. She took second in the 200-yard back with a career-best time of 2:06.38, 10 seconds faster than the PSAC qualifying time.
Jessica Berry and Lucia Martin saw career-best swims over the two-day meet. Berry completed the 200 IM in 2:19.84 while Martin recorded a time of 1:18.85 in the 100-yard butterfly. Berry also competed in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke touching the wall in 1:13.12 and 2:39.30, respectively. Her time in the 100 breast marked a new career-best. Martin swam alongside Maddi Stoner in the 100-yard freestyle finishing the swim with a 1:06.84.
Stoner finished the 100 free just a second shy of the PSAC qualifying time, 57.92. She recorded season-best times in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100 fly. Stoner earned a PSAC cut in the 50 free with a final time of 25.74. She came up just short in the 100 fly completing the race in 1:03.46.
Alexis Shollenberger joined the ranks of her teammates with a season-best time of her own in the 50 free. Shollenberger touched the wall in 25.81, eight tenths of a second below the PSAC cut. She recorded a time of 1:00.63 in the 100 back earning a second PSAC qualifier. The junior made the PSAC cut in the 200 back with a final time of 2:16.48.
Freshman Amanda Simon saw action in the 400 IM, 100 breast and 200 breast. Simon's 5:13.87 in the 400 IM and 1:12.68 in the 100 breast marked a season-bests. She recorded a career-best time of 2:39.98 in the 200 breast.
"From our arrival to our success, we kept the energy level high and had fun," said Eric Usbeck, "That positivity has helped us all year and will continue to aid us in our journey to the PSAC meet."
The Marauders will take a few weeks off before returning to the pool at Anttonen Natatorium to face PSAC foe East Stroudsburg on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 1 p.m.
