MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville women's swim team claimed first place in eight events to earn its first win of the season over Immaculata University. Juniata topped both the Marauders and Immaculata in the tri-meet Saturday afternoon.
Madisson Cartmill earned three more PSAC cuts in the 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard backstroke and 400-yard individual medley. Cartmill now holds 11 victories this season and nine PSAC qualifying swims.
Cartmill's 4:50.12 time in the 400 IM not only cleared the PSAC cut by 10 seconds, but it also set a new pool record in Anttonen Natatorium. The previous record was 4:51.72.
Cartmill finished the 200 back with a time of 2:13.96, three seconds under the PSAC qualifying time. She touched the wall in 1:00.19 in the 100 back. Teammate
Alexis Shollenberger finished close behind coming up just short of a PSAC qualifying time, 1:03.94.
Maddi Stoner saw her third and fourth victories of the season in the 50 and 100-yard freestyles. The sophomore came in just shy of a PSAC cut in the 50 free finishing the race in 26.09. Shollenberger came in second place just four tenths of a second behind Stoner, 26.13. Stoner recorded a time of 59. 34 in the 100 free.
Amanda Simon claimed her first victory of the season in the 100-yard butterfly. The freshman completed the race in 1:04.24. She also shaved four seconds off her career-best in the 200 breaststroke recording a time of 2:43.41.
Jessica Berry finished just ahead of Simon with a final time of 2:41.06.
Lucia Martin recorded career-best times in both the 200 free and 100 fly. The sophomore touched the wall in 2:27.96 in the free and 1:21.15 in the fly.
The squad of Cartmill, Berry, Stoner and Shollenberger took home the win in the 200-yard medley relay. The team finished ahead of Juniata by four seconds with a time of 1:56.06.
Martin and Simon got in on the action with Shollenberger and Berry for the 200-yard freestyle relay. The squad touched the wall in 1:50.44, three seconds ahead of second-place Juniata.
"The team is responding quite well to the training and swam quicker than expected," said head coach
Eric Usbeck, "They had great energy from the start and held onto it well."
The Marauders head to the Ranger Invitational on Friday, Dec. 6 and Saturday Dec. 7 in Madison, N.J. for their last meet of the year.
