MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The No. 16-ranked Millersville women's soccer team has three matches remaining in the regular season, beginning with Saturday's contest against Shepherd University, and can set a new program record for victories if the Marauders win out. Last season's total of 14 wins tied the record set back in the 2003 season.

Shepherd and Millersville have met once this season, back on Oct. 5, with the Ville claiming a 1-0 win.

The Marauders remain in second place in the PSAC East standings with a 10-2-1 conference record, remaining one point ahead of No. 23 East Stroudsburg and eight behind No. 6 Bloomsburg, although Millersville has played one less game than the Huskies. The team has also been ranked No. 2 in the Atlantic Region in the first NCAA regional rankings of the 2019 season.

ABOUT THE MARAUDERS
  • Millersville maintains one of the most effective offenses in the PSAC. The team's 40 goals scored is the third-highest total in the entire conference and its 293 shots is ranked fourth-highest.
  • The Marauders defense continues to deny opponents as well, conceding only eight goals all season and keeping nine clean sheets. Those totals are second only to Bloomsburg's (5 goals conceded and 11 clean sheets) for lowest in the conference.
  • Young players have contributed greatly to the Marauders' success in 2019. Three freshmen (Michelle Belcher, Morgan Winchock, and Savannah Rennix) have combined for 16 goals and six assists.

  • The Marauders are 5-1 all-time versus the Shepherd Rams.

PREVIOUS MEETING (Millersville 1, Shepherd 0 - Oct. 5, 2019)
  • The Marauders dominated possession and created the bulk of the game's chances, launching 23 shots to Shepherd's three.
  • The Shepherd defense bent but did not break for much of the game. The only goal came in the 31st minute, when Millersville's two seniors created a superb chance. Amanda McElhare snuck behind the Rams' defenders and played the ball across the box over to Kay Liebl, who ran onto it and tucked the ball into the net.
  • It was the first meeting between the two teams since 2011.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

  • Emma Bernardoni and Mikayla Azar have each scored two goals as well. Shepherd has only scored eight as a team in 2019.
  • Rams' goalkeepers have been extremely busy this fall. Lulu Fricks has made 67 saves while Meghan Byers has made 54.
