Marauders end three-game road trip with 1-1 draw vs. East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Millersville men's soccer team played its third road game in the last seven days and ended the trip unbeaten after surviving a 1-1 draw with East Stroudsburg on Wednesday evening. Jacob Gosselin scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season to equalize the game in the 57th minute. Neither team could find the golden goal in two overtimes despite a bevy of chances for both sides.

The Marauders have not lost since Sept. 25 versus Gannon University and remain unbeaten in PSAC play with a 3-0-2 conference record. The team's overall record moves to 5-3-2 after Wednesday's draw.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Ethan Woods almost broke open the scoreless game in the 29th minute, finding enough space for a shot but sailing it high over the crossbar.
• Two minutes later it was East Stroudsburg who found the opening goal after Anton Lysell slid a through ball to Trevor Paone. Paone put a low hard shot into the net to give the Warriors the 1-0 lead.
• Millersville took the field after halftime with renewed vigor. Spencer Shortt used his speed to fly by the ESU defenders in the 49th minute, forcing the goalie to come out to meet him. Shortt managed to get his shot off but it rolled just inches wide left of the goal.
• The Marauders maintained the offensive pressure and earned a corner kick in the 57th minute. Anthony Calamia sent the ball perfectly into a dangerous area, where Jacob Gosselin was able to direct it with his head into the net to tie the game 1-1. There was no more scoring in regulation and the game went to overtime.
•  Three minutes into the first overtime Darian McCauley and the Millersville defense were tested. A shot from East Stroudsburg went off the post and the Marauders scrambled to recover. The follow-up shot from ESU was forced wide and no damage was done. The two teams battled through another overtime period and the game ended tied 1-1.

POST GAME REACTION FROM HEAD COACH STEVE WIDDOWSON
• On today's performance: "I thought we played well throughout. We dominated possession but we need to learn how we can turn that possession into genuine goal scoring chances. That's still the piece we are missing and continuing to work on."

• On the team's progress near the midpoint of the season: "Overall we are in a good position. We are where we want to be in the PSAC standings with one game to go before that mid way point. We are developing our style of play and it's coming along. I'm happy with where we are but there is also still plenty of room for improvements."

• On the next stretch of games home at Pucillo Field: "Thankfully we do have a good chunk of home games left. We need to capitalize on that now. Being at home and in front of our fans will hopefully give us that lift we need to open up and get that more prolific scoring touch."
